9yr old model Maytag window a/c - just blows cold for 30 seconds - then blows warm. Was perfect until this happened. Is it worth fixing? What would be the usual fix for this?

The compressor is shutting off on overload after running for a few seconds. The overload cools down and starts the compressor running again until the overload heats up and shuts the unit off again.

01 Sebring convertible, AC was low on refrigerant, and would stop blowing cold air and start blowing warm air. I added refrigerant, and it worked perfectly for about 20 days. Now it blows cold, then it...

First of all if your system was low on refrigerant there is a leak. You can recharge and exspect the air to work, how long it will last depends on the size of the leak.Somtimes the refrigerant can have a leak prevenative but this is for very small leaks. You need to have dye put in to system and use black light to find leak.they make kits at your local auto parts store that you can buy and do this your self.If you say it worked well for about 20 days, that is a fairly large leak. The reason why the compressor is acting so erractic is because the freon has oil in it and lubracates the bearings in compressor. When the system goes low the compressor will turn on and off to protect itself.Eventually it will stop running completly.Idont think you have an electrical problem,Ithink you have a big leak.Try what I said and good luck....Brian

All the food in the freezer defrosted and the refrigerator side is not cold enough. I have vaccuumed the coils and the fan on the back side is running. The compressor comes on for about 10 seconds then...

The compressor isnt coming on for about 10 seconds, its attempting to start for about 10 seconds. Since you will not have the proper device to jump start the compressor, your only choice to determine if its the compressor itself, or the start device that starts the compressor has failed, is to risk buying the compressor start relay and overload and hope that is it, or find a local refrigerator repair company to diagnose it and then either have them repair it or repair yourself.

My Haier Mini Fridge comes on but keeps nothing cold. I defrosted in August and it worked for awhile and now it defrosted on its own and no longer gets cold.

This could be a bad defrost timer. See if the compressor is working. If it isn`t or only works sometimes. The defrost timer could be bad. When the frig goes into the defrost cycle, turns off the compressor. It may failing to turn the compressor back on after the defrost cycle. Since it stopped defrosting at one point and started again, the defrost timer may be bad. Let me know if this was any help or if I can help any farther.

Compressor wont start

It is probably a failed run capacitor for the compressor. Without the capacitor, the motor can't even try to run, but it will draw extreamly high amperage until it trips the thermal overload (avarage trip time 5-10sec) after it has a few second for the safety to cool off, it will try again. Either that or the compressor truly is seized
