It sounds like you may have a corrupt partial installation or a conflicting "test drive" installation perhaps.
If you've ever had Office 2007 installed, go to your Control Panel and choose "Add/Remove Programs" (XP) or "Programs and Features" (Vista).
Check to see if anything related to "Microsoft Office" is installed. Student versions, "test drives", can mess up new installations. If you find anything there, remove it.
If you have ever gotten even partially through the installation, follow the steps below to clean up the partial installation, and then try your install from the DVD again:
1.) Download the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" from Microsoft. Details here.
2.) Save the utility to your desktop.
3.) Double-click msicuu2.exe and follow the onscreen instructions to install.
4.) Choose Start > Type Windows Install Clean Up to start the Windows Install Clean Up utility.
5.) Now choose the any entries relating to Microsoft Office and click "remove".
6.) After performing the above steps use the Office 2007 DVD to install complete package.
Additionally: "Copies" of Office DVDs (and downloaded DVD images) often result in corrupt files. If you purchased the software recently You should contact Microsoft to have your DVDs replaced, if the problem doesn't clear itself up.
You should also make sure the discs are in physically good shape and free of scratches and dirty.
