The film stops food particles and steam from entering the part of the door that is difficult to keep clean. That is all it does.
No danger just difficult to clean.

I own a microwave: model # jes636wk01 There is a plastic film covering the wire mess on the inside of the door. Will the microwave operate safely if the film is damaged or removed?

yes. It is there to protect the glass from food splatters It is the panel with the million holes that controls the micro waves I would not remove it but have it replaced if damaged.

I have a Kenwood microwave oven which has a plastic film on the inside of the glass door. I have used it like this since new as it was not obvious that a film was stuck on the inside until now as it is...

It should have been removed from new. Much of your foodstuffs could have contained toxic substances that leach from this plastic membrane. But as you are writing to ask then you have survived so far.
Remove it......

The film on the inside of the microwave oven door has bubbled & is raised off the glass. Is it safe to use.

No, that must be patched or replaced. It's critical.

The film protects the door screen from getting food, grease or moisture in it, which can lead to corrosion and arcing.

The screen prevents microwave energy leakage, which can cause arcing and fire.

If the bad spot is not too big, you can cut it away and clean it squeaky clean and patch it with clear packing tape.

If it's too bad to patch, you'll have to see if you can get new film, or if you need to order the inner door panel or whole door.

Remove door film

First let me tell you micro doors are dangerous to mess with if you are not trained to do so,if the film is missing or damaged you can order it from any appliance parts wholesaler,
But most manufacturers prefer you replace the whole door it's much safer.

Condensation inbetween glass door on GE Spacemaker

Your glass seal has failed and I doubt it makes sense to replace the door. Yes, it can be dangerous as the moisture becomes worse you risk the chance the glass could over-heat and blow out. Sounds like you need to replace it, sorry!

Damaged door on microwave

Buy a detector to test your microwave to be sure it is not leaking radiation. The detectors range in price from ten dollars to about thirty five dollars and can be purchased in most hardware stores. If you discover that the microwave is leaking radiation, never try to repair this appliance yourself. Take the microwave to a professional for repair. All things considered though, the microwave oven is fairly inexpensive these days it may be a better idea to just purchase a new one.

Microwave Oven replacing plastic film on inside of door

FSP stands for "Factory Service Parts" which I believe was originally terminology from Amana, which now (along with several other brands such as Electrolux, Frigidaire, Jenn-Air, Kitchen Aid, Litton, Roper, and Whirlpool) is now under the Maytag umbrella.

Confusing, eh??

Hopefully the new one will have adhesive included. If not, then you'll have two sheets to use to get it right.

In that case, I'd probably recommend the spray-on type adhesive you can find at hardware stores or big box stores such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's etc. It will probably be made by 3M.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.
