Read the manual which is available on the Nexstar web site here:

http://www.nexstarsite.com/

Generally you will enter Time, Date, and Site, and Standard Time, and then setup POLAR ALIGNED on Polaris and execute a 2 or 3 star alignment.

How to retrieve item dropped inside Celestron C8 telescope

Very Important! Mark the corrector with tape between the corrector and the side so you can put it back in the exact same place. Do NOT tilt the scope down or the eyepiece will slam into the secondary or the corrector plate, Remove the screws holding the corrector. A strong suction cup can help lift it out (will make a mark to be cleaned later.
Gently tilt the scope down to remove the eyepiece. Re assemble and you will probably have to collumate.

Manual for TwinStar 1000mm focal length telescope and equatorial mount

Equatorial mounts need to be polar aligned to work correctly. Once the scope is polar aligned (see manual or look online for polar alignment instructions), turn on the RA motor. Loosen your RA and DEC locks and find a object you want to view, The motor should keep the object in view for a while (depends on how good the motor tracks and how good your polar alignment is.) Spending 10 minutes polar alignment on my C8 keeps the object in view for about an hour without adjustment.

No problem - just want to hook up a Canon EOS to the back of my C8. What equipment do I need in order to be able to take photos of the night sky?

Any telescope retailer can assist you in buying the correct T Adapter and mounting ring that matches your camera --

Here is a good retailer:

http://www.optcorp.com/ Call them.

Also the scope will need to be accurately polar aligned in order to track the stars precisely. Read This:

http://www.astro-tom.com/tips_and_advice/precision_polar_alignment.htm

Then you will need some stacking software and image capturing software like Deep Sky Stacker to process the images--
http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html

This will also help you--

Could i convert my c8 to a go to computer and what would be involved

No, sorry the old C8 cannot be converted.

You might consider selling the C8 and upgrading to a more recent goto scope, OR deforking the tube, and mounting it on a GOTO mount like the alt az Ioptron Pro, or an EQ mount like this one:

here is the Ioptron:

You can check local hardware stores - there is nothing special about the screws, although they may be imperial dimensions.

Set up

The finder scope may not be aligned properly with the mn telescope. In the daytime, try setting the main scope on a distant object such as a steeple or chimney in the distance then align the finder scope to point to the same object. Then at night, look at the some bright star or planet and fine-tune the finder scope's adjustment screws so the images are aligned between the two scopes.

Zeroing scope adjustment

First, adjust wind-age and elevation to center or zero position. Remove your scope from the gun and make sure that the scope mounts are aligned, this is critical. Purchase an alignment tool is necessary. Then remount the scope. The scope should seat in the mounts without binding. If it does bind, the mounts are not aligned.
Start sighting in at close range,10 to 30 yards, then move out to 100 yards.

Auto Align??? DS-2114ATS-TC

The alignment stars will be nearby BUT MAY NOT BE in the eyepiece-- you must center the alignment stars using the hand controller-- after you center the second star the GOTOs should be OK.

Be sure that the telescope is configured for EQ SOUTH mode to tell it is in the southern hemisphere. Once a star alignment is completed NEVER manually move the telescope. Use only the control panel to slew. Everytime the telescope is move by hand, the motors do not know it has been done, and assume it is still pointing at the old direction. Check the manual for setup.
