Question about Ovens

Power failure and error codes on Whirlpool Gold Buil-In Electric Convection Oven, Model #GRD307PRS00. Originally installed 02/17/06 and had a bad control board changed out at installation (did not work when installed). Recently ovens produced a series of beeps and shut down. Turned power off and on (flippped breaker) several times and eventually oven came back on with error codes appearing. Ovens are now working fine. Was informed by seller/repair center that control board will have to be changed since ovens will eventually stop working again at a cost of $300-400 but that part is on backorder for several months. Your thoughts please.

I am specifically asking if this is the ONLY solution - changing out the board. Is it going to evenually fail or will the "re-boot" method continue to work indefinately. Also if I have the board repaired offsite I would still have to have it installed. How complex is this?

  • jabeeson Jan 04, 2011

The error code only appeared for a feeting moment and has not appeared again. I did not record them. There were 2 sets of codes side by side E ? and a 2nd set.

  • jabeeson Jan 04, 2011

Is there any solution short of changing out the complete board?

  • jabeeson Jan 04, 2011

Considering that the control board (new) is not even available at the moment I think the wait and see approach is all that I can do. I will be sure to write down any codes that appear if it hapens again.

    Thanks

Hi

Error codes means that oven control has detected an issue with the oven component/s. Oven working fine doesn't mean that the error may appear again, it depends on the type of error that was appearing. Example, if the error was related to oven temp sensor then it may reappear again at any point of time while operating the oven. Please let me know the error code which you got on your oven. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

I would suggest you to wait until the code reappears as it could be due to power glitch/failure. Moreover, the issue can or cannot be related to control board alone. Replacing a control board now is not suggested. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

You could send that board to Bruce at fixyourboard.com and he would fix it for around 135 bucks and warranty it. I have a guide to late model oven repair manuals and more here

Whirlpool Gold Electric convection oven does not heat up.

Check for a broken wire or even broken element on top and bottom of unit. To do this, the unit must be unplugged or otherwise removed from power completely, then remove the screws that hold each heating element in place and gently pull out and inspect the wire connections. You should have just enough slack to check them. There should also be just enough slack to strip the wire clean to make the new connection to the heating element.

If the repair has been done before, you may need to fish a new lingth of high temp wire into the location.

Hello!
This blank display is a common control board problem. If the buttons beep when pressed, then the control board is getting adequate power. If the buttons beep.. and your oven light still turns on when the oven door is open.. this a text book control board failure. We at Fixyourboard.com can solve this problem for you, and back the remanufacture with a two year warranty.

My whirlpool accubake built in oven has error code E1F1 due to a power failure. How do I fix this?

It is always a good idea to include both model and serial numbers when requesting help on any appliance... but try...
1. Disconnect power for at least 30 seconds.
2. Re-apply power and observe for at least one minute.
3. If code re-appears, replace control board (also called ERC or clock).

Whirlpool Gold Series double oven electric model GBD307-PDQ309

Usually this is a touchpad and control panel fault but the only way to know for sure is to do some electrical testing with a volt/ohm meter and the wiring diagram located within the appliance.

With the model number of the oven we could look up the code and be more specific about the problem.
