Question about Maytag Washing Machines
The lid switch is probably the culprit. It sounds like it is trying to work but then stops. With the lid open try pushing down on the lid swtich to determine if it is making. You can use a pen or small screwdriver to test this. After you make it click watch the washer go through the cycle and see if this does not allow it to continue on with the wash cycle. If this works you can try to see if there is any adjustment on the lid or the switch to make better contact if not then the sewitch will need replaced and that is any easy fix. Let me know how this progresses for furthur advice.

The problem is the pressure switch has failed or the hose is plugged up, has a hole in it. These are usually inexpensive and are very easy to replace. Here is a video this will walk you thru testing and replacing a pressure switch. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.

SMALL: Washer is less than 1/3 full of clothes.
MEDIUM: Between 1/3 and 1/2 full.
LARGE: Between 1/2 and 2/3 full.
This washer will pretty much take anything you can throw at it. It was a competetor of the Maytag large capacity washers. As long as you follow the loading guide above you are not going to hurt it.
