If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Hi I Have a AEG KB9810E microwave/oven combo. Its 6 years old. While the microwave was in operation, the circuit tripped and my partner heard a popping sound. Now its not clear of the AEG tripped the...

Normally when no power coming on from the microwave the fuse has blown in the microwave due to a short hi voltage diode con bad located by the capacitor or micro switches located by the door clips. If you have no electrical experience do not temp to fix it yourself due to high voltage stored in the capacitor.

Microwave stopped working

The main fuse in the microwave is probably open, causes are! door switch, magnetron, inverter board, "if 7 years old or less" and possibly the keypad control board. I recommend having it checked out.

MW8115SS worked perfectly and then went dead

Blown fuse , take the outer cover off and change the fuse. Iff you don't have a fuse use a piece of tin foil until you find a replacement fuse.
Hopefully this helps you out.

Grill element stopped working.

I had the same. Dismantle the oven and see at the back side the connection wires for the heat element. Mostly one of the connectors is faulty. I fixed it that way.

Our microwave went dead. It's only three years old. My husband put some chicken wings in, closed the door, and everything went black. We plugged in a nightlight in the power source and it worked. Any ideas...

a few possible causes,
1, the high voltage fuse,
2, the high voltage capacitor
3, the slow blow fuse ( normally found on a small pcb inside unit)

other than that, check the door switches and maybe the x former.
good luck.

Stopped working during microwave function

First unplug the unit.
The problem is most likely caused by the thermistor (thermal resistor) failing. This device is located at the outlet vent and will cut power if the unit over heat or catch fire. All microwaves have it. You can test it with an ohm meter. You can get a new one from an electronics store like Radio Shack.
You will have to remove the cover to get to it.
This unit may also have a fuse inside, I do not know if this is the one you changed, but you can look at it. You didn't give a model number so I could not point you to a diagram.

Whirlpool MH1150XMQ 1000 Watts Microwave--NO HEAT

About 95% of the time it is the magnatron. If the microwave is under 5 years old that part is often covered under warranty. I would check your manual. If not the p/n is 8206335 and it's about $80 and fairly easy to install. I just looked and the magnatron is covered.

Labor to replace it would be about $125
