Hi.

Error 2203 occurs when an MSI Windows Installer tries to copy the file to a directory but cannot due to a permissions problem.

Ensure that you are logged in using an administrator account or an account with administrator privileges.

In some case, with Vista, instead of double clicking the installer file, click right button of mouse and choose "run as administrator" from the dropdown menu.

If that is not the problem, do the following troubleshooting from Microsoft support:

1. Click Start Orb (start button at the left), in the start search box, type Services and press Enter.
2. Scroll down and find the Windows Installer. Double-click "Windows Installer" in the Services list.
3. On the General tab, make sure the service is started under "Service status".
4. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.

Step 2: Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer

1. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK .

2. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK . After you run this command, the operation is complete.

3. Now, try your installation again.

Step 3: Clean any pending installations

Check the following registry key and clean any entries in the key that you find:

Go to the Start Orb, type in Regedit and select enter.
If you get the User Account Control dialog box that states, Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to the is computer?, Click yes.

Modifying REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of REGISTRY settings can be solved. Modifications of these settings are at your own risk.

Scroll to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

Check the following registry key and clean any entries in the key that you find:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

Step 4: Check the permissions

Verify the System has Full Control on the following keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer

Restart your computer and try again.

When i install windows xp on dell inspiron 1525 at midle of installation when it restarts an error ocures \r\nthe digital signature catalog D:\I386\sp2.cat coud not be installde. the error code is...

Most likely this is due to a read error from the installation media. This could be either due to a scratched CD/DVD, or dirty CD/DVD drive's lens. Try using another unscratched installation CD/DVD. If this did not help, then try cleaning the CD/DVD drive's lens before attempting the installation.

If neither works, it might be related to a defective memory module.

Hi there! Yesterday I was installing Windows XP

Sorry to hear your having issues installing the OS.

There is two problems your facing one is the disk is so scratched that the system can not read the disk or the hard drive has bad sectors or clusters which are failing when being written to.

You have two options to fix this one is to make sure the cd is clean an or replace your hard drive.

General disk read error message tend to be from hard drive cylinder's.

While instaling windowsxp i had a problem and gives a error code

Hello,

One of the files on the XP installation CD must be damaged or corrupted.
Try to restart the installation process again.
If it produces the same message, you might have to use another installation CD.

Thank you for using Fixya,
Kenneth.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from the CD
  1. Insert the Norton AntiVirus CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If the installation program appears, then click Browse the CD
    • If the installation program does not appear, then double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop, and then double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.
  3. Double-click the MSI folder.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the WIN9x folder.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click the WINNT folder.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click the Instmsi.exe file.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe if you have Windows 2000/XP.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
  7. After the rollback has finished, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

If these steps do not fix the problem, then go on to the next section.

To run the Microsoft Windows Installer if Norton AntiVirus was installed from a downloaded version
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Find (or Search) > Files or Folders.
  2. Ensure that "Look in" is set to the drive where you downloaded Norton AntiVirus, and that "Include subfolders" is checked.
  3. In the "Named" or "Search for..." box, do one of the following:
    • In Windows 98/Me, type the following:

      instmsi.exe
    • In Windows 2000/XP, type the following:

      instmsiw.exe
  4. Click Find Now or Search Now.
You might see many files with this name. Look for the file with this name that is located in either the Symantec_Norton_AntiVirus_2003 or the your Windows temporary file location depending on your version of Norton AntiVirus.
  5. In the Search Results window, do one of the following, depending on your version of Windows:
    • In Windows 98/Me, double-click Instmsi.exe.
    • In Windows 2000/XP, double-click Instmsiw.exe.
  6. In the next dialog box, click Yes.
This will undo the changes that were made to your system during the first failed installation.
  7. After the process finishes, then reinstall Norton AntiVirus.
Follow the instruction in Reinstalling your Symantec program after a failed installation or after you see error messages to start the computer without any programs running on startup and then reinstall your Norton program.

Try borrowing a compatible HDD instead of buying a third one for testing and check if the same error exists. Try also using an external DVD drive to see if your internal CD-ROM is defective. Try also using another Windows XP CD installer. You can also use other OS installation CD to check it. Otherwise, there is something wrong with your lappy's motherboard due to tear and wear, heat, vibration, misuse and shock.

Fatal error 2203

Editing the registry is risky. Use these instructions at your own risk.
First do a normal uninstall of your HP printer
If you have trouble installing officejet j4580, you may need to edit the registry and remove all HP items. Make sure you first go to control panel and delete all installed hp printers. Then go to Windows Explorer and delete all hp folders. Save a backup copy of your registry. Then find all HP registry keys and delete them.
Then restart your computer. Download the latest printer package from the HP site and save to a folder in your Documents. Then install the package from the download.
