CCFL Inverter I have a F1503 P9616A Monitor that I beleive has a blown Inverter. I conducted the flashlight test and I can see writing behind the black. If this is the part needed what is the part number and where could I find it? Mike

Mike inside th case of the monitor there are 1 or 2 pcb (computer like) boards if you check these you will most likely find capacitors that ar doomed (blown) this is the problem not the whole inverter board.

First if you can, try the monitor with other PC first to make sure it is not the PC problem.

If it behaves in the same fashion, then most probably has dying power supply due to bad DC filter caps, just see the top side of the caps to ensure it has not bulged up distorted.See the images bellow

Then there is the logic board. Plug the monitor in but do not activate the power switch so the backlight inverter circuits will be off. Check the 5vdc and the 12~24vdc to make sure they are OK. They should be tested with the load, you can use 6V 1A (6watts) lamp for the 5vdc, and car lamps such as 1157 (12v 8watts lo/26watts high) turn signal brake lamp using high filament connection for testing the 12~18vdc (or use two 1157 in series for 19~24vdc) for the backlight inverter circuits.
If the power supplies are working, the output voltages should be steady at the rated voltages. The power supply will go into shut down if it detects too much current draw due to false in the power supply or short circuits in the backlight inverter or in the logic board.

The backlight inverter circuits:
It takes the 12~24vdc and converts it to high frequency AC to drive the inverter transformers CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) assemblies. The transformers will drive the CCFL by applying the start up voltage (around 1500~2000v), when the CCFL start conducting, the voltage will drop down to about 500~800v.
The inverter has detection circuits to detect open circuit if the lamp is not attached or does not fire up after the start up voltage is applied, it will go into shut down. It will also shut down if the lamps draw too much current due to ages (when lamp gets old it will draw more current).
The inverter gets two signals from the logic board, one is the backlight ON/OFF signal, the other one is the Dimming signal for the lamps.
Common problems:
Bad filter caps, resonant caps (in the inverter output circuits), blown transistors/IC, shorted or open transformer winding.

Do write back if you face any difficulty while working on the monitor

Unit starts ok then any where from 30 sec to 1 minute the screen goes black.power light good. opened unit capacitors good .if u put a flashlight by it u see the image. Is it hard to cnange the backlight...

Before going to replace CCFL check the inverter of the CCFL. Normally the inverter get faulty. There is possibility that the winding of the high voltage transformer get shorted or its driver transistor may get faulty. check the same

you meant the DV4,s, VGA jack works plugged in to any VGA real monitor ,right.
well then the flashlight tests works on the local screen.
1:yes, then the CCFL black lamps are bad, or the DC/DC inverter cards is bad,
2: no? then screen new is wrong or the main chip driving is bad or the cable driving the screen is bad.

what did the old screen do??? when broken.

its only 5 parts, there. (one is bad)

and the driver chip (mobo bad)

now lets do, carbon dating (its should be first, see why )
2012 year laptop? it seems. no longer suppored by HP.

This PC does not have the 2008 solderballs from H3LL problems.

You could have a faulty inverter board or a faulty CCFL lamp. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp and the CCFL lamp is a mini fluro tube.

Sounds like the video card, but could be the ccfl inverter starting to go bad or a ccfl lamp going bad.

It is probably the ccfl inverter board that has gone out.  It is what drives the fluorescent lighting that gives your monitor a picture.  One way to test it is to shine a flashlight at an angle on the monitor while the computer is on and if you can see the picture very faintly, it is the backlighting not coming on.  It could be the bulbs, but more times than not it is the inverter.  You can usually find them on ebay along with instructions.

With the computer on and the monitor connected, shine a flashlight at a slight angle on the screen and see if you can make out a picture. If you can, then it is most likely the ccfl inverter, if not possibly the power supply of the monitor.

Screen So Bright I Can Barely See Anything...

The auto dimming circuit on the ccfl inverter is out.  Replace the inverter and it should cure your problem.  Seek adult supervision for this repair. Do not try it by yourself.
