Question about Dell Inspiron 1420 (dndwja2_5) Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2MB cache/2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB) 250GB/1000MB PC Notebook
OK ..if you use a external card ..you need a driver to install for it ...and after that make the settings ..
But ..assuming that you etalking about the laptop's internal wireless card ..the following steps must be done ..
First ..you have to make sure that you turned on the wifi card from the button ..
than if you have it on ..go to device manager by right click on the my computer and choose properties...than hardware ..than device manager ,,
In there look under the network and see if the card is present and not in yellow with ask sign on it ..If it is like that it means that you need the driver and reinstall it ..
If it is not present at all in the network area..it means it is disabled..and in this case..the first step is to right click on the network are a..and choose scan for hardware changes..This will scan the devices and if it is the case will get your card visible again ...Right click and enable it ..and also run the update driver ..to reinstall it ..
if there seam not to be a driver available in your system ..get on the support site and download the wireless driver for your operation system and run it again ..
Here is the link ..
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1420&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Usually this kinda issue is caused by the lack of driver in the system ..and after installing it things will be ok
IN the last resort you have to get into BIOS settings by pressing F2 on start up ...and once in there look for a feature called optimal factory defaults(settings) and engage it ...Save the changes in bios settings by pressing F10 and restart ..
This will enable the card if it is disabled for some reason ...and if you want you can start with this operation in the first place ..cause if it has no driver ..after doing this it will ask for it automatically ..

Welcome to Fixya
You might need to reinstall the driver of the wireless network card first since everything is working a while ago. Restart the computer after reinstalling the driver. Power cycle the router also to refresh the connectivity.
Please reply this email for any update.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Hello, I already did that and nothing yet. I'm going to try and restore the computer from my last log in, and see what happens. Do you know a way to test if the card is good? besides moving the switch, maybe taking the card out.
