Unplug the vacuum then pull the bottom off the head and clean the brush. Check for debris on the brush and around the ends of the brush. Insure the brush moves freely. Check the motor by turning it by hand to see if it rotates freely. Check the belt to sdee if it is tight. When belts get old the will sometimes stretch and won't work properly. Hope this helps.

Why is my power head not working

You either have a broken power cable going to the head or your canister isn't supplying power to the head, or the motor for the head it bad.

My basement is flooding and my 5 gal shop will not **** up the water. It works momentarily and then spits the water back out

You should remove the filter that is inside the vac. This should allow for the vac to **** up the water. But just in case that doesn't do it, here is a link to a site that may contain a free download of your manual:
www.shopvac.com/parts_pdfs.asp?p=%25&Submit=Search

Just look up your type of vac and click on it.

Good Luck!

Power head turns on and works the power that turns vacum on not

If the suction motor doesn't come on but the brush motor does, you have a bad vac motor. If neither motor runs, it's probably a cord problem. Most parts for these are not available anymore.

I have an older Electrolux canister vacuum - model #2100 and the temperature sensor shuts down the motor. How to I take apart and clean?

Check to be certain the thermo lite is on and not the bag full indicator. The thermo detector is very reliable, but the bag fill valve often fails. If it is the thermo, check your hose and wand for blockage by dropping a coin through them, before opening the vac itself.Otherwise you may have a bad set of motor bearings causing the motor to overheat due to its age.
The 2100 and all its canister cousins made since 1982 seem to be prone to failure of the dial valve on top cracking internally. The causes the bag full indicator to come on and the vac to shut down.
To open the vac you will need to slide the locking keys and bumpers forward with the bag door open. Do this with a set of pliers. Once done the vac will open from front to back like a **** shell. Be careful to look at the underside hinge are of the bag door before separating and mark and locate the wiring harness . This vac only goes back together one way, perfectly assembled it pops together with ease. If any piece is out of line it`s like a RUBIKS Cube. Take your time . OEM parts are only available through an AERUS Elctrolux dealer or repair shop

My vacuum is constantly shutting itself off. When

It sounds like you have a blockage somewhere and the air is not passing over the motor to keep it cool. There is usually a thermostat mounted either on or near the motor. The blockage can be anywhere from the elbow ( the swivel part of your carpet sweeper if you have a canister vac) up thru the hose.If you have a canister vac, use a broom handle to push through the hose to clear the blockage. DO NOT ! use a coat hanger or anything that will cut or tare the hose. There are electrical wires in it that have 120 volts and causes quite a shock !
.
If you have an upright vac, start with the duct hose that comes from the part with the brush up to the hose and on to the main canister of the vac
If this does not work, take your vac to a reputable vac shop for repair. Hope this helps,
Joe

My canister machine kicks off immediately after starting and bag full light goes on but it has a new bag

hi from uk your problem with vac may be the gauze filter on the inside of the compartment that has bag this filter there to allow air from the micro pores of the bag to expel to the exterior of vac (room) whilst preventing dust from expelling too ? normally another symptom of this is the vac cover sometimes flips up ? however if air cannot expel from compartment it will cause overheat of motor resulting in auto cut off but will reset when cooled SO check the filter gauze and renew or wash clean? hope you understand above and hope this helps ?

Motor on the powermate keeps cutting in and out.

If your talking the motor on the beater bar, then chances are either when the beater bar was attached to the hose near where you hold it, it did not lock, and the connection is intermittent, or the cord has an internal break.

Hot cord

likely after all these years that the motor is starting to go bad and draw more amps thasn it should. a new motor at a vac dealer is your best bet. it was likely made by panasonic, so a new panasonic is your best bet, and less $$$than the kenmore for the same vacuum. sears parts are extremely expensive

Dynamite Quick Vac there is no suction

If it sounds like the vacuum motor is running then you have a clog. Clean out any hoses where a clog may be. If the vacuum motor does not sound like it is running then you will need to take it to a vacuum repair shop. Or you need to make sure the canister is attached correctly. If the canister is not fitting correctly then you will lose suction. Hope this helps, post back.
