I tried to follow these instructions but was unable to understand them. Was able to get on the page to make the changes by placing 192.168.1.1 but could not find the location to select channels as directed. I'm really over my head here. Need instructions for dummies!

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

Have done this. Don't understand "use channels 1 6 9 and 11. The page only allows me to select one and when I have saved it, it sends me back to the same page.

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

    My options are:
    Disable
    PSK Radius
    Radius
    WEP
    Which one do I select?

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

Still no luck. I can still get on via cable, but not wirelessly.

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

I have done this and still have no wireless connection.

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

I am using a Linksys wireless g router and have somehow lost the wireless connection to my computer. I hope you can see from the thread what I have attempted. All to no avail. I have received the same instruction the last 3 times and have followed that instruction. Still no wireless connection. Can someone please help me?

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

How do I determine wheter or not my computer can detect the wireless router?

  • a_g_bentley Jan 03, 2011

Is anyone there? I keep trying and now I am told that I just need to spend some more money to get an answer. Did I already use up the original $20. Is there no solution for this problem? This hasn't worked for me...do I get a refund?

Welcome to Fixya

Make sure that the computer can detect the wireless router. If your computer cant search the router then the wireless capability of the router might be turned off. If possible, please provide me more information of the problem.

Your response will be highly appreciated.

Thank you for using Fixya!

You computer should be able to search the wireless router. Go to control panel and click network connection click the wireless icon then start to search for available wireless network. What windows OS are you using?

If you are already on the on the router setup page using the 192.168.1.1 from there look for a Wireless tab , then once you have it open see if you can now see some options there for the wireless channel and other wireless settings. Then after doing the changes dont forget to click save settings.

Set it to disable and save the settings then go back to basic wireless settings and change the SSID to your first name and save the settings and try to connect now your laptop wirelessly.

Since this is getting far already and a bit complicated will you allow me to access your computer remotely? so I can take a look and fix it that way. If you will allow me go to this web site teamviewer.com and then from there you will see a small option that says JOIN a Session and ten run the software and then provide me the ID and password.

Wireless antenna or wireless router

Did your ISP Boingo supply you with a DSL or cable modem with a built-in wireless router? If only a DSL or cable modem is supplied and you wish to connect to the Internet by wireless then you need to connect a wireless router to this DSL or cable modem.

You can connect to the Internet using a LAN cable from your laptop to the DSL or cable modem.
If your laptop as a built-in wireless card you can to the Internet via the wireless router.
If you laptop does not have a built-in wireless card then you can install a PCMCIA wireless card into the card slot of your laptop to the Internet via a wireless connection.

The CD is not available for installation is it necessary? I have all of the cable if the Yellow cable connects to the cable router what does the white cable on the wireless router connect to. Thank...

If the cables supplied have RJ45 connectors then they are used for connecting and configuring the wireless settings in Netgear router and to connect the Netgear to the DSL modem foe Internet access.
Most likely the color of the cables is not important.
To configure the wireless settings, connect a cable from one of the LAN ports (not the WAN/Internet port) to the LAN port on your computer. You may remove this cable after configuring the wireless settings if you want to connect to the Netgear by wireless only. You need to connect other computers to the Netgear's LAN port with a cable if they do not have wireless cards installed in these computers.

The other LAN cable is used to connect the Netgear WAN/Internet port to the DSL modem so you computers can connect to the Internet via the Netgear router.

Follow these instructions to configure the Netgear router.

WIFI not working with Linksys wireless-g broadband router/Comcast

Unplugging the wireless router and connecting it again should not have altered the wireless connection/configuration. You have connected the cables correctly because the Internet works when you connect a LAN cable to the router.
The Linksys wireless configuration or the wireless card configuration in the computer was changed it to lose the wireless connection. The wireless card configuration needs to be changed to match the wireless router's settings or change the Linksys with new configuration settings and configure the wireless card accordingly.
To secure your router with a login password and wireless security, please follow my instructions - click on this link :-

The wireless internet connection wont work. we previously had a wireless connection and now it wont register. we lost the connection completely and it doesnt show up on the list of internet connections....

Try turning off the router for 30 secs, then power it up again.
Then try connecting a LAN cable from the computer to the router and see if you can connect to the Internet.
If you can connect to the Internet then -
With the LAN cable open a browser and type in the configuration URL and check the Wireless settings, then check and/or the wireless card settings (it should have the router's SSID and encryption settings etc.)
Also install the latest wireless card driver.
Then test the wireless and Internet connection. If this doesn't work -
Next connect the computer with a LAN cable to the cable or DSL modem to see if you can connect to the Internet.
If you cannot get an Internet connection with the LAN cable, contact your ISP and get them to test the connection to your modem.
If the modem and Internet is OK and you still cannot get a wireless connection then the problem could be a faulty wireless router.

Can i use Bluetooth USB Adapter to connect PC to wireless router?I purchased a new PC that's connected to a wireless router for internet. I want to connect my old PC to the same wireless router. I don't...

Hi, to connect your computer to the wireless network of the router you need to have a wireless adapter. The bluetooth adapter will not work in this case as the router does not communicate with the bluetooth signals.

Purchase a wireless adapter like NETGEAR WG111

Rate it, if it helps.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Wireless internet connection

I may be able to help with this...but I need a detailed description of how you have things connected between the XP desktop, the cable, modem, the Linksys router, and the laptop. Also, is the Linksys router new?

Typically, the wan port on the wireless router connects directly to the cable modem with a cat5 network cable....then the desktop pc connects to the router...on port 1 for example...with a similar cable. Once the wireless router is set up properly, the laptop should then be able to connect using wireless.

Internet speed with wireless connection to my router is almost half as compared to when i connect to my router using a cable.

As far as i know the coonection speed on internet should be the same, the speed at which you connect to the router wirelessly would be half the speed ,hence 54 mbps as apposed to 100 mbps via cable, when downloading. I assume you have done a speed test at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html to give you your modem connection speed, although your wireless connection to your pc; will stream the connection at half that of cable.
