Question about Sony KDS-R60XBR1 60" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

I have removed and had professionally repaired the "light engine" on my KDS R60 XBR-1. My problem now is focus, the lense on the repaired part is moved fom the original position. It takes me 45 minuted to get to the lense to adjust it and 45 minutes to back out in order to test it. Is there a quicker way to adjust the lense without taking all the guts out?

I have not had a chance to try this yet, but it looks like the right way to do the adjustment. Thank you.

Hi,
Easy way to adjust focus lens is to remove front screen frame (beznet assembly) to get access to lens for focus adjustment, put screen frame back on tv temporarily to check and fix it after achieving good focus.
Below two images show front screen removal procedure.
Image-3 shows how tv will look like, check lens is located in lower center.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Nikon 28-105mm lens works okay but the focus feels "gritty" as if there is a little bit of sand in the gears. My concern is that it is on the verge of breaking and becoming unusable. Is the focus...

The "grit" is most likely between the two lens barrels and the more you use it the more damage it may cause. Cleaning and repacking/sealing a lens like this should not be attempted by people with out the proper equipment and knowledge. Basically if you take one of these modern auto focus lenses apart without the proper tools to realign and set the internal lens elements you have pretty well destroyed the lens. The Nikon 28-105 is a great lens and worth in my opinion the small amount of money to have a professional person service it.

When I atach the lens don't have any image, only the menu and in the upper display the word "Err" flash. Thank you very much.

Err on any Nikon D series camera indicates that the lens is not communicating with the camera (among other things). There are 3 things to check:
1. Is the lens you have a full-auto lens for use with the D80? 2. You need to set the lens f-stop to its maximum number (minimum opening) with some lenses for it to work right. If the lens runs from say f 1.4 to f 22 and you've left it set for f 16, it will give Err message 3. The lens may just not be seating correctly. Remove the lens and CAREFULLY inspect the contacts on the lens and camera to see if there's any discoloration, bent pins, etc. If you find this, I would suggest professional repair.
If it is only the auto-focus feature that's messed up, you can switch to manual focus and the error should go away. Of course, you'll then have to manually focus.

Stuck lense on olympus FE-350

If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.

1. Check the batteries
(obvious I know).
2. The
camera has been dropped or knocked.
3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.

Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average
home user can remove and take apart. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.

You're unsure how to carry out the repair on an amazingly complex piece of precision engineered equipment costing £300 (approx US$500). If the repair fails, your £300 is worth around zero.

With the greatest of respect, I think that you've answered your own question.

If it helps, I've repaired many cameras and lenses in my time, but modern electronic AF versions are best left to experienced professionals unless the repair is a very minor one. This is not a minor repair as it involves a lot of disassembly. Personally, I wouldn't bother, just apply clear tape of the type used to repair clear corrugated plastic roofing over the hole. Unlike sellotape, it's UV stable and the adhesive does not dry out, but even sellotape will do if you can't get the stuff I'd recommend. It won't look as good as the repair you have in mind, but it's cheap, it works, and the exposed sticky surface on the underside of the new "window" will catch any dust or dirt which may already be rattling around inside.
