Question about Projection Televisions

My Sharp lcd tv suddenly stopped working. There is no power at all. Cable box and dvd player on the same remote have power and work fine. I did plug the tv power cord into a different outlet, still no power. Could the problem be with the ac adapter?

Thanks for the advice, but I do not have a meter and have no idea how to use one. Doesn't it make more sense just to buy a new adapter and see if it fixes the problem?

The tv and peripherals are plugged into a surge protector. There is no power indicator light illuminated on the tv. The power lights on cable box and dvd players are on. Had no problems with tv before it died. Thanks.

How old is your LCD?
If less then a year old, the LCD still under manufacturers warranty.

Could be, you can check it with a multimeter. The output voltage should be printed on the adapter, just test it for the proper voltage +/- 1 volt. I use a paper click to get to the center of ac adapters when my multimeter probes don't fit.

Wouldn't you want to make sure it's the AC adapter first instead of spending money possibly for nothing. You could bring it into an electronics repair shop or computer repair shop and have it tested.

Projection TV. DVD works. Cable often seems, "untuned". Static & un-fine-tuned sound of channel with black screen. Then, later, it will come on just fine. Sometimes, will go back to untuned status.

I would suspect your cable box first. I would unplug the power cable from your cable box and wait 60 seconds. Plug it back in and try to watch cable tv. I would also make sure the coaxial cable going from the wall to your cable box is connected properly. I would also make sure the cable going from the cable box to the tv is connected properly. Test your tv and see if it works correctly when you watch cable. If this fixes the issue you are good to go.
  • If this makes no difference use a set of new cables if you have them.
  • If this does not work then call your cable company. They may have to replace your cable box.

The Basics

Before we explore more complex tv troubleshooting techniques, we need to examine the basics. First, we need to verify the TV is securely plugged into a power outlet. Don't laugh, but failure to plug-in the TV is the number one reason reported why electronics do not work. Second, you need to verify the remote has fresh batteries. This can easily be overlooked. The remote can be working one minute and not working the next, so replace the batteries Finally, verify that all cables and connections are correctly and securely attached.

Hi:
The IR receiver inside the television is becoming intermittent and needs to be replaced. You might also check the connections on the receiver small circuit board for cold or loose solder joints.

Some dvd players do not have the switching line fro your tv to automatically select scart input but you will be able to select via the tv remote if there are no buttons marked av it can be an oblong with an arrow pointing inwards or you may have to select via the source menu on the tv if you have your original handbook it will give a helpline number for Asda.SUPER8.

Polaroid lcd tv w/ built in dvd player dvd player quit working, now tv stopped working too,at first i could turn it off unplug the tv plug it back in and it would be fine, but now it doesn't work at all,...

This denotes a problem with the power supply for the unit. This may be as simple as removing the power board and replacing it or as complex as repairing the board itself. Repairing the board would be the cheaper option, but In either case I would suggest that you let a qualified TV technician perform this task, due to the possibility of electrical shock hazards.

I hope this helps,
