Question about Arris (SB5101U) Cable Modem

1 Answer

I've recently switched to charter as my providerand they installeda modem ( sbv51220) which works fine, but the monthly charge of five dollars irks me. I bought another modem from Bestbuy at the urging of a salesperson (sbu51010) My question is this. The 5122 has a seperate phone line coming into it and the new one does not have a phone line connection. Will the new one work and perform all functions without a phone line attached? I'll be using the ethernet cable to connect to my computer.

Do you have phone service with Charter as well? If so the modem you have been provided is made to run both the phone service and the internet. If you purchased your own modem from best buy the phone portion would not be present so that is why those connections are not on the new one.

To cut to the point the new modem will work just fine for you internet but bear in mind it will now require another splitter for the coax cable line and each time that you add a splitter you will loose a portion of the incoming signal and this may affect your services.

Thanks,
Robert

Linksys WRRT300n v1.1 will not connect to any wireless device

Some times this is do to the way charters network is provisioned. The reason I know this is I always used my own routers to avoid rental fee. All of the sudden none of my four routers will work with charter. They try to delicately say it's a problem with my routers, I know they are working fine. Long and short you may not be able to use your router with charter because of the way they are provisioning similar to the way a modem is provisioned. They won't tell you this because they are probably not legally allowed to do it. Try to call a tech @ charter and casually ask what routers work well with their network or ask them to recomend a router that will work well, or you can continue to fight with the one you with possibly no avial. Hope this helps.

I have charter internet with a modem and i have a westell 327w wireless router/modem. How can i connect the two modems to work wirelessly?

I think the Westell Router/modem that you have must be the modem for the DSL connection.
Charter is a cable internet service provider.
You can not use 2 modems connected to each other.
You have a charter modem , you can purchase a wireless router only.
That will work.

If from going to Bellsouth to Charter you went from DSL to Cable, you may need to change the MTU on the router to match what is set on your modem (it's often different for DSL than for other networks)
