Question about AT&T High Speed DSL Modem

1 Answer

The power light stays red and does not pick up the DSL line. Then after a short while the modem shuts off without it being unplugged from the outlet.

Telephone your local ISP (Internet Service Provider). If they provided the DSL modem to you, they can trouble-shoot your problem, and, if necessary, ship you a replacement modem. If they cannot help you, it is time for you to find a different ISP that _can_ help you.

PK5001 solid red DSL light

The trick I found for this is amazingly simple. Take the phone line out from your DSL modem and plug your phone line temporarily into an antique regular telephone for a second, check that it has a dial tone, and plug it back into your DSL modem. Your red light should go green in a minute after plugging the phone line back in. If you leave your computer idle too long, I think the phone company senses no activity and kills the connection after a few dead minutes, and the signal gets booted into some electronic alley. Also put tinfoil over your splice connectors as they leak signals that totally confuse your modem. Never leave any bare wires, I tinfoil the entire modem to prevent the neighbors from hacking me. I don't use wireless, only CAT5 ethernet cable.

Have at&t dsl, no home phone, moved down the street had everything transfer, hook up modem have red light on dsl, after dealing with at&t they sent me new modem hook up last night still same...

If you can try the modem on a KNOWN working DSL line, then do so! What you want to do is confirm that the problem is, or isn't with the modem itself. Also, if you have access to a good, working DSL modem, that would help resolve the issue.
BTW - DSL modems are fairly cheap, you can pick one up at Best Buy.
From there, if the modem is bad.... you'll have to replace it. If it's a DSL issue, AT&T will have to resolve the issue with your line.

DSL Modem not working.

meaning of the red light on your modem is that iy=t is not working properly(modem) so all you need to do is power cycle it by unplugging the power cable to the power outlet and to make sure just press the reset button for 5seconds... usually it is at the back of the router/modem...

hope it works and pls do vote on my profile after that thanks

I turned off the power to my 2wire box - now I can't get it to power up and have internet. What do I do??? More details: I had turned off the surge protector the 2wire box is connected to - when I turned...

Hi there!. unplug the power plug of your 2wire box from the surge protector for 1minute and after 1 min, plug in directly to the wall outlet, not to the surge protector. try to unplug and replug as well the connection on the back of your 2wirebox and check the cable connection from the isp cable to the modem,, the last option that your going to do is to reset the modem of your modem/router but make sure that you know the settings of your modem and wireless settings if u have.. or contact your isp provide for further details..there is a situation that there is a problem from your dsl company connection, most dsl use telephone lines..

2wire 2701HG-B got red light on power & green light on wireless

Issue that you have mentioned its very common among 2Wire modems. Most of the cases we have diagnosed Modem usually OK but the AC Adapter, AC adapter somehow comes from 3rd party with low quality production. Due to its circuit design internal heat dries up the DC output capacitors. So DC output comes up with ripple and it cause modem to not work properly. You may change the AC adapter or you can change its Capacitors. Same rate AC adapters will work fine. Just make sure polarization is right.
If Issue continues you may post for further diagnosis

Good Luck

2Wire 473 router problem

Take the modem and plug it into a GFCI outlet. You can find one in the bathroom or the kitchen.

If the power light comes on solid green and the dsl comes on red then the modem is good. Was it plugged into a power strip by the computer? If so, plug it straight into a wall outlet.

If the power light comes on solid red then the modem has hardware failure. I would contact your ISP and have them replace it if it is still underwarranty.

Did you Unplug the Modem from Your Electrical Outlet, AND Unplug the Telephone Line coming in too, for 5 minutes?? Give "it" a chance to Completely Re-set/Reboot..I have a GT701 DSL Modem, that's what I did, and it worked fine. "IF" that doesn't work I would go to "Support" at either Action-Tech or Your DSL/IP Provider. Hope this Helps you.

4100 Light flash no connection

*if the DSL light on your modem is blinking..
TRY: using different filters// check physical connection
IF: not resolved call ISP for a trouble ticket for their line department
*if all the lights constantly blinks
DO: purchase new modem, maybe deffective already or check if modem still under warranty so provider can replace it

NOTE: plug 4100 modem directly to the back of the computer tower without the linksys router and check if light status still the same...
HOW: cable connected from back of modem shud be plug in directly to port at the back of PC tower.. completly remove linksys and turn linksys off..

2WIRE Single Port DSL Line Filter

i think when you purchased the 2wire modem it usually comes along with 3 sets of single port dsl line filters, try out those other filters see which one works. if the local network light doesn't come on, (are you using 2wire 1000 series?), check the network adapters in your computer, this usually happens when you are using lower versions of OS. try the power outlet in the kitchen / bathroom, if power light doesn't come on, push the reset button for 30 secs. if power light is still off or red, then you may need to replace the modem (check if it's still under warranty, if not you will need to buy a new one.) also you should be using the same power adapter that came with the modem, check the specs. sometimes if the modem is more or less than 3 years old, they could get defective especially if it's often affected by sudden power surges.

2701HG-B

Hi. I will not repeat the check the phone line and resetting comments as it's now redundant.

I always have a spare modem as a line tester.

I've seen several 2700HG-B 2wire modem/routers burn out and every single time it's the DSL signal or modem portion that is burnt out. Even if you have two or three phone line surge protectors these 2700s are prone to shorting out unless you have a direct signal splitter DSL setup.

Here are a few things you can try to confirm if the 2700 is no longer functional on the DSL signal light problem.

#1: Turn on (plug in) your 2700 without the phone line plugged in and wait. If the DSL starts flashing red then there is a hardware problem in the modem/router.

#2: Plug the phone line into the 2700 while the dsl light is flashing red. It might take about 3 seconds however it should start to flash green and let it flash for about (usually) three minutes. If it turns red then the 2700 is indeed damaged.

#3: If you can enter into your modem using the http://2wire... and check the connection status. The first two status lines should read attempting to connect and no connection.
