When i switch my tv on it has a habit of switching itself off. The red light will still be on and a little green light below it flashes. some days it does it somedays it doesnt. Some times it does it once...

The television is switching itself off to protect itself because there is a problem with it. It may be a bad capacitor, which is usually the case but you have to catch it before it gets any worse. Because then the television will switch itself off and not come back on. The light will just continue to blink and on top of replacing the bad capacitor the entire board the capacitors are attached to might need to be replaced as well as the power supply and main board. Please do not keep turning your television on while it needs repair because it will put itself into a coma and contact a service provider asap.

Samsung DLP TV HL50A650 switches on and off

more than likely, the power level is too high for the TV. Make sure the votage switch on the back of the set matches what you are plugging into. For Example, in the US the set needs to be set to 110v, Europe is 220v. If you're getting a burning smell, it might be too late. That tells me that the amount of volts to the TV is greater than what the set is expecting.

if you bought it under one year ago then the retailer should be obliged to either replace it or repair it. I would look into this further, ask to speak to the manager or something casue when a tv switches itself off it indicates an error inside and turns itself off to prevent further damage.
