Question about Ultra Max Ultra ULT40243 Brushed Aluminum External Hard Drive Enclosure - 2.5 SATA Drive, USB, Aluminum, Black Serial ATA, USB, USB 2.0 External Drive Case

1 Answer

My hard drive and enclosure were working perfectly. I had to put in a different hard drive to get other data off, but when I tried to stop the drive, it said there was another program in use. There were none in use at all. I unplugged. Now the hard drive will not come up at all and it is constantly looking for a driver. It finds a driver, says it's ready to use, but when I go to my computer the drive doesn't show up.

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check.

My Seagate Expansion External Drive just stop working. Whene ever I connect the power cable it making bip sound repeately several times and stop. and the drive doesnot show in My Computer. The drive is...

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

You can try to use a different Hard drive enclosure because this can also be a problem with the enclosure, if the new hard drive enclosure works good , but if still not working you can try to take that hard drive out of its enclosure then connect it to a laptop and hopefully that way we can retrieve the data on it...

Hope that helps..........

Transcend 500 GB External HDD is detected but doesnt show the data in it.

Your external HDD may be corrupted. Recover the data before you use it.

First things first: STOP using the external hard dive that you want to recover data from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of data recovery.

Then Recommend you have a try of Wondershare Data Recovery, a data recovery program with both Windows and Mac versions provided. It should help you. Get the related versions here,

Data Recovery Windows (for Windows)
Data Recovery Mac (for Apple Mac OS)

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your hard drive until you can recover your data safely!

West Digit 250 Gig drive died

This may sound crazy but this is how we recovered data off the hard drives when i was in college for CCNA.
Take the hard drive out and put it in a freezer for about 20-25min and then take it out and insert it into your laptop, It should give you enough time to recover your data. If it still will not load you could try getting a hard drive enclosure and throw the hard drive in the freezer again and make sure you have a working computer aval. and then take the hard drive out and install it in the hard drive enclosure and then plug the usb into your working computer and try and get your information off of it. Hope this helps.

Datastation m.u stopped working : (

Hi,

Dropping a drive can be catastophic but usually isn't.

I suspect you may get lucky and find out it's just some of the circuitry in the trekstor shell that is damaged.

Take the Trekstor unit to your nearest PC shop and ask the technicians there to remove the Hard Drive and put it in a new enclosure to test it. If it works in the new enclosure, buy the enclosure and your done. If it doesn't work in the new enclosure then you may be suffering from worse issues that will require the help of a pro.

Either way let me know how you make out, if you need a pro for the next step, reply back with you location(Country, State, City) and I will refer you to the closest facility who can assist you.

Hope this Helps FixYa,

Chris

Can a external hard drive with a power supply issue be fixed?

the data on the drive should hopefully be safe as it sounds like it is the drive enclusure that has failed here (not the drive)

your data should be intact if the drive hasn't failed.

however to access the data is a different matter, as I am unsure how maxtor deal with this, to do it manually you would put the drive into a working enclosure or connect it to a functioning HDD adapter (for your drive type)

however to do this the drive would need to be removed from the enclosure (voiding the warranty)

hope this helps

Hard drive shuts off after 10 seconds

There are a variety of things that can malfunction on your external hard drive:
1) The cable
2) The external hard drive casing
3)  The hard drive itself

If you have tried plugging in your hard drive to different computers and are still having the same issue, then there is either a problem with your casing or with the hard drive itself, because you've already switched out cables.
If your hard drive casing has malfunctioned, then retrieving your data is as simple as putting the hard drive inside another hard drive enclosure.  Hard drive enclosures are available at any local computerstore, and also available by going to our website at www.iomagic.com and clicking on Drive Enclosure.  Make sure to get the right size enclosure.  The GigaBank 320 has a 3.5" Hard Drive inside it, which is a standard desktop hard drive.

If you put your hard drive in another enclosure and it still won't show up on any of your computers, then your best bet at retrieving your data is to contact a data recovery specialist.   After you have retrieved your data, we will replace your unit if you are still within your warranty period.

For specific warranty and replacement information, go to www.iomagic.com  and click on Support.
