Question about Battery Tender PST-100 BATTERY TESTER #0260001 0260001

1 Answer

I drained my battery by leaving a ionizer plugged into the cigarette lighter. The car had been left for 6 days without me driving it. Now it is recharging from empty - can you tell me how long it will take to recharge?

This depends on the size and amp rating of your battery and the rating of your charger. On a 10 amp charger you should be good in about eight hours. On a engine that starts easily you probably can start in much less time if you are going to be running engine long enough to charge system on your car to finish the job. I would recommend checking the battery after you get car started to make sure it is charging properly. Charge rate should be around 13.5-14.3 volts. Hope this helps you. Thanks

Fuse box layout

Could be a parasitic drain like the underhood light, trunk light, floor light, map light, etc. not turning off correctly, something left plugged in the cigarette lighter port, or just a very weak battery that is due to be replaced, or heavy corrosion on battery terminals, very dirty battery top causing cross voltage drain. Few things to check there.

What can cause total battery discharge?

Leaving any light(s) or appliance on such as the radio or something plugged in cigarette lighter socket, bad alternator / serpentine drive belt, frozen belt pulley, bad alternator. Be sure your underhood light, map light, courtesy or dome light and cargo light are shutting off properly and not causing a parasitic drain. If you got a battery light on the dash while driving or engine running, probably replace the alternator.

Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

do you have your heater controls set to defrost and the fan on high when you park the car, that way when you use your remote it is already set up.Your scooter though,I guess if it was me,I would run wires up to the front seat so I could plug it in the cigarette lighter while I was driving to charge up.

91 Camry - Cigarette lighter plug active w/o key?

In my personal opinion, electrical current recharging, unattended for a long period of time, backflowing through a circuit not designed for it with the proper fuses and protection, is asking for trouble. Wouldnt it be better to disconnect the battery, and have it fully charged when you get back? The downside is that you will lose radio code and check engine history, but if the check engine light is not on, you havent lost much.

Fuse box should be located either in the glove compartment, or to your left below stearing wheel. Also check fuses under hood, should be located next to the battery. Double check the GPS, most of them will nox plug into cigarette lighter plug. It could damage the GPS.

Did you drain the battery completly? Have you tried another battery yet? I've come across this issue once, seems the owner drained the battery completly. Leaving it hooked to the mains with the mains charger for almost a day did solve the issue. I'd try a new battery first.
