Re: GE JTP45 oven - the top door does not shut all the way. I know how to remove the door, but this doesn't seem to let me remove the hinges. I have tried removing the two screws, but there doesn't seen any direct way to get the hinge out. Do I need to remove the front frame first to get the hinge out? If so, how do I remove the front frame?

You may have to dismantle the door. Clean the glass while there.

I know how to remove the door. The hinges do not come out with the door. How do I remove the hinges from the frame?

  • Denis Colbourn Jan 05, 2011

This is more difficult. Sometimes the mechanism with the spring is held in by 2 screws, othertimes it is built in to the oven when assembled and is a much harder job. The oven needs to be removed, the outer case removed so the mechanism is exposed. The availability of hinges would need to be explored before this is attempted. I have only seen these when dismantling an oven.
    good luck.

Open oven door. Flip metal holder down at hinge to lock hinge. Lift door with hinge attached up slightly and off oven. Reverse to re-install door, making sure notch at bottom of hinge is hooked in frame of oven properly.

It does sound like a wiring mistake. Check all the connections and the wire colors against the colors on the Tech Sheet wiring diagram (which is normally taped on inside the control panel). Particularly look closely at how the door switch and lock connector is plugged in. You may have reversed the plug.
