Question about Dell 944 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Cartridges jammed. When printer is turned on, there is a loud noise and the cartridges do not advance to printing position.

    Thank you. I have found all the parts that you mention and I think I have placed the strip in the slot as you advise, but...



    Is the plastic strip supposed to be anchored at both ends? The one in my printer is unattached at the left end. Is that as it should be, or should it be attached to something.



    If it needs to be attached, how do I get to where it is to be attached. I can't reach the spot.

    Thanks. The problem is in getting the top off for access to the ribbon(s).

    I'm not mechanically inclined enough to succeed at it and have already made a bit of a mess of things, so I'm off to by a new one. This one has lasted a good time so I can't complain.

Hi.

Clean or replace the encoder strip. That is the most common cause for this problem.

The encoder strip is the plastic strip located behind the ink carriage. Function of the strip is locating the position of printhead/ink carriage, and determining the movement of the printhead. When the encoder strip is out of place, dirty or broken, the print head goes in the wrong position, and you will get this problem.

    Yep, I know. Your all in one is quite different. I can find the schematics for a similar model or I can get the schematics in one day or so, but the way you do the job is more or less the one illustrated in pictures.

    Hi.

    Effectively with the all in one printers you need to remove the scanner assembly.

    If you buy a new printer keep an eye on cartridge prices. There are big differences.

My HP PSC 4500 printer makes a loud knocking noise when first turned on which goes off after a few seconds and printer woorks okay


OfficeJet Printers have a "spittoon" in which a rubber pad is used to wipe the bottoms of the cartridges to maintain a clean jet nozzle area. To find this, the unit will go to it's home position, "bump" that side where the spittoon resides, to confirm it's home position, then wipe the cartridges before its ready for use. In other words: "That's a normal noise for this model of printer". It will happen every time you power it up or wake it from hibernation mode with a print job.

Kodak esp 7250 printhead carriage jam


This problem has plagued me for a very long time. The issue is that the printer head is "glued" in the resting position under the guard of the printer, so you can't remove the ink cartridges to clean it. Solution is to (I know this sounds stupid, but it works) turn the printer on the side where the printer cartridges are (if they are stuck on the left side, turn the printer on its side so the cartridges are on the bottom). Turn the printer on, and the cartridges magically start moving! I guess there are some sensors that get tricked out when you tip the printer on its side. If the cartridges are still stuck, click the "ok" button, and before it gets a chance to see if you actually fixed the problem, turn the printer off using the power button. It takes a long time, but you should see the ink trap lower (release the ink cartridges) and the ink cartridges start moving to prepare for shutdown! Grab the cartridges when they move out of their hiding place and don't let them go back until you clean the print head so it doesn't get stuck again. Remove the ink cartridges, then push the grey tab to release the print head. Wipe the bottom of the print head clean with rubbing alcohol (it will have a lot of gooey - sticky ink stuck on the bottom). I used nail polish remover since I didn't have rubbing alcohol available. You can also wipe down the ink pad which is where the ink cartridges were previously jammed to clean up more of the mess and prevent this sort of thing happening again too soon. Good luck!

Copier makes a noise when first turned on and then it tells me to open the door clear carriage jam and press enter. But that does not work. The printer has been sitting for a little...


Check the following steps for fixing Hp Carriage Jam Error :

Open the print carriage access door. Check for any packing material that may be blocking the internal components. Check for an orange shipping lock that may still be in place on the left side. Pull the shipping lock out, if present, and discard.

Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they are properly installed. Lift the front center of the print carriage access door to open it. Lift the door up until it locks into an open position. Press down on a print cartridge and allow it to spring back up. Lift the cartridge out of the printer. Do the same for the other cartridge. Slide the black cartridge into the slot on the left and the color cartridge into the slot on the right. Press down on each one to lock it into place. Lower the print carriage access door.

Check the print cartridges to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the ink nozzles. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Remove any tape or labels. Replace the cartridges into the printer.

Push in on the tab on the left side of the clean-out door on the back of the printer to open the door. Lift the door out of the printer. Check for any paper jams. Jammed paper can block the printer cartridge carriage from moving. Pull any jammed paper out.

There could be 4 possibilities.

1. Ink cartridges lids are open which is not allowing cartridges to move freely.
2. Ink cartridges carriage will not move from its original position(left) when front cover is opened
3. Encoder strip is Dirty.
4. Encoder strip is Out of position.

Solution:
1. Open the front cover and check if ink cartridges lids are properly snapped in.

2. Turn the printer off and pull out the power cable from power socket, open the front cover and manually center the ink cartridges carriage.
Clean the metallic rod inside the printer using WD40 or Kleenex from Left corner to right corner properly.

3. Cleaning the encoder strip:
a. printer should be off and disconnected from power.
b. open the front cover.
c. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer and you can move the cartridges carriage to clean the strip completely.
d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
e. Close the printer and try again to print.

4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
a. Remove the power cord from the printer.
b. Open the front cover.
c. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
d. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.
e. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.
f. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.
g. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.
h. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.
i. Re-connect the power cord to the printer and try again to print.

Stalled printer cartridges


Sounds like an issue with the print carriage. When it's out of alignment and tries to print, it can make awful noises. HP.com has a web page that describes a number of troubleshooting steps when you have print carriage issues:

Dell 942 carrier jam


This morning I replaced the cartridges in the Dell 942 printer, they jammed to the left which made a loud grinding noise and the cartridge jam error came on.

I solved the problem by turning the printer on with the top up which moved the cartridges to the right a little so I could reach back, push one down a little manually which freed them to move over to the middle.
