Vista may not support it but you can try some things.

oYou may need to simply and very carefully delete all usb devices from device manager and restart so they are reseen and re-installed.

Help! Devices show as working, but "not detected" when opened

You could try to go into the registry and remove the usb enumeration folder "USB" .HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\ change permissions for it to be able to remove it. When you restart your computer all usb devices will be recognized and installed again. Let me know if this helps or not.

Device not recognized

Try going to the control panel, system, hardware, device manager. Find your USB devices in the tree. Right click on them all, and uninstall all of them. Reboot your computer and you may be able to install your USB devices from scratch.

If this dies not work, post your computer type and what system you are running: XP? VISTA? [WIN95? :-) ]

Thinkpad T20 won't recognize usb port

You can get a PCMCIA adapter with 4 USB v.2.0 slots on eBay. It requires power from the USB port on the laptop, but the pigtail connector is included. Works like a charm! Comes from China just like everything else in this country.

why fight it , let it be on com 1 then,
go into the bios and disable the serial ports .
that may be the easiest fix as long as you don't need the serial port for anything.
but if you have a serial mouse oh boy.
