Does it make the screeching sound continually after it is turned on or just when it is turned on and then the sound goes away? Knowing this will help in diagnosing the problem.

SOURCE: our ge profile electric dryer has recently started

Your problem sounds like drum rollers is in need of lubrication.
If you have a front loading machine, Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

SOURCE: My whirlpool gas dryer makes a screaching noise turns off

your drum glides/rollers are defective on the front edge of dryer where the drum rests, sounds most like the glides are glazed, not roller bearings but check it could be either

SOURCE: My dryer is making loud screaching noises

Sounds like it needs what are called glides or felt. This is what keeps the metal drum from contacting the metal housing. If this is let go too long the drum can be ruined

Did you remove the filter chute? My dryer was making a heck of a racket and I found a wire inside the blower housing:

I have a Maytag Heavy Duty Quiet Series 200 Dryer, and when I turn the dryer on is makes a horrible screeching sound. Like metal grinding against metal. What do I do?

That's easy, first of all you must have the Dryer on flat floor I mean verticly right. And try not to put too many clothes to get dried.

Sounds like it is scraping when turned on

You've got some worn out friction pads, rollers, or bearings. Do not run the dryer in this condition... It will damage the drum (if it hasn't already).

You'll need to remove the front to look at the front drum supports and the rear support rollers. Once you are able to see inside the dryer, it should be pretty obvious which parts are defective.

Dryer makes screaching noise as the drum spins once the dryer is running for 10 min or so. Sounds like the drum needs some WD40.

Need blower wheel replaCDED?

If it was your blower wheel it would not make that noise first cheak and see if thewheel has play on the shaft if so then it will need to be replace second turn blower wheel by hand back and forht if there is a screaching sounds if is a dry bearing on the motor .If so if you can live with the sound it will not go right away if not remove motor and replace. If there is play on the wheel you will need clip pliers and normal pliers and remove both clip[ on shaft and clip on shaft revers after install new blower wheel good luck:)
