Google AVAST or AVG for free antivirus. They both will work well. I'd also install Threatfire. Make sure you don't have any other AV on the system as two AVs are really bad.
If you dont update your OS, even with the best Antivirus you will be in big trouble with security breaches/holes.
IF your copy of windows will not pass the WGA then you are out of luck with Avira . Avira needs SP2 so you could try AVAST, its min requirements are.

Hi, If it's the free version of Antivir that you are using then there is no way to disable the pop up advertising window. I use Antivir myself and i have looked everywhere to try and find how to disable the annoying pop up with no luck. If you don't want any annoying adverts then try AVG Free instead.
