Open Question

Nikki carb on an Onan B43M, 16 Hp. Just above the idel rich/lean screw, is there a seal-off plug that belongs over what apears to be a fuel passage? Mine has none. Where to get one. Thanks, Ken

Check the fuse to the injector. If it is out or got wet, it could mimic these conditions. let me know what happens. I have an 85 model.

That is the choke adjustment,have you checked your timing on the motor and check and see if the vacum pod on the distributer is working. also check your vacum lines for any tears or cracks in them.

L is for idle speed mixture and H is for full throttle mixture. Adjust H, when engine is warmed up, with full throttle--adjust for high speed, but 4-stroking which should smooth out just as soon as you start cutting. Allow to idle and adjust L for smooth idle, but rich enough to allow the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Set idle speed screw to just allow the chain to stop moving.

Turn the air screw and the throttle screw inward until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each of them outward one and one half turns. This is the factory setting. You might want to clean the carbs. After cleaning, before you put the slide back into the carb, move the clip on the jet needle downward one notch. This will richen the fuel mix and help with the bog.

You should take one of the heads off and look at the valves. You may have deposits building up no the valves.

120 pounds compression sounds pretty good for a six year old engine with 500 hours on it. It probably started life at 9 to 1 and now is around 8 to 1.

I own a kawasaki kx 100 motox bike,,its a 2003 model,i want to know what? the settings are for the carb


What settings? Air fuel mixture?
to start with only you can set this
1. You need to know what a plug looks like
whens it's burning to rich or lean.
2. One carb? Turn mixture screw in all the way
go out 2 full revolutions
3. Crank bike if it will let it run give it gas
the sound of the motor should tell you
witch ways you need to go once u get it or think
you do take it for a ride then pull plug once coold
if the plug looks to lean turn the screw a
qurter turn out till you get it just right
do the same if it's to rich lookn on plug.
dose this carb also have a high/low mix
screws as well?

It is running lean, they always need to run a little on the rich side free running, once the engine is loaded it will then need the excess fuel, it runs ok without the bar and chain because there is no load, start by replacing the fuel filter in the fuel tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of fuel leakage, replace if reqired, if the carb has standard adjuster screws, increase the H screw by 1/4 turn out ( anto clockwise ) this will richen the mixture.

96 intruder running rich


on your carbs on bottom side there are adjustment screws for fuel/air mix,if your air cleaner is clean and haveing this problem,you will have to get to these screws and turn them clockwise 1/8 turn to lean carbs out,it might take a few trys,so reading the spark plugs is good indicater,looking for tanish brown in color,black is rich,white is lean.

Where is the mixture screw on a suzuki 125cc intruder vl 2008, as it appears to be running rich and no manual, plugs get black and wet.


the mixture screw is underside of carb,if its between cylinder and front side of carb its fuel/air,to lean turn screw clockwise,if its between backside of carb and air box/filter,its air/fuel,turn screw counter clockwise to lean,adjust with 1/8 turn at a time.

It stalls every now and then when I close the throttle. no one can give me an answer about this even the dealer.


sounds like fuel mixture adjustment is to rich,if you blip the throttle and rpms drop then rise its to rich,if blip throttle and rpms hang then drop,its to lean,on the under side of carb there are adjustment screws,if they are on backside of carb,between carb and airbox(filter) then its air fuel,to lean mixture turn screw counter clock wise 1/4 turn,if they are between carb and motor then they are fuel air,to lean turn clock wise 1/4 turn.then check.may have to try couple times.carbs may still have plugs installed,they have to be removed first to do this adjustment.

Sounds like your carb is flooding. Inside the carb, there is a simple valve that shuts off the fuel flow when the fuel bowl is full. If this valve fails, or if the float sinks, then too much fuel is forced into the cylinder and will wash past the rings and into the crankcase. This causes the engine to run very rich. You need to remove, clean and overhaul the carb, and change the oil and sparkplug and probably the air filter too. Find the model, type, and code numbers on the engine and go to www.partstree.com , www.ordertree.com , or your local repair shop to get the needed carb overhaul kit. Some B&S engines have an option of carbs, so look for a name on the carb itself...probably Nikki or Walbro. The carb kit is not very difficult to install, but make sure to get everything very clean before reassembly.

Were is the fuel fiter


the factory does have a sort of filter that they install on the fuel petcock( on/off fuel switch mounted under tank) but it is a screen( usually plastic) you have to take the 2 screws off and remove the on/off switch to get to it( drain fuel first)......but they hardly ever get clogged!!!! you can check,but i dont think thats your problem...sounds to me like your either running to rich or to lean which will be a carb issue.... do you foul plugs allot?or get a black oily residue leaking from exhaust?( to rich or to much fuel to engine from carb ) if not then sounds like its running to lean.( not enough fuel) ( rich or lean will cause it to bog when hammering on throtle..) if your running lean i would remove carb and clean with carb cleaner( might have a partially pluged jet in the carb.......

Try turning the mixture screw up a little or if nothing else ive heard of the plug that goes into the carb nees to have the long needle trimmed to the height of the shorter needle in the plug

WHY IS MY 2004 SUZUKI SAVAGE BACKFIRING WHEN I LET OFF THE THROTTLE OR TURN IT OFF THERS A VACUUM HOSE ON THE LEFT OF THE CARB BUT I CANT FIND WHER IT GOES


Backfiring is usually a symptom of the engine burning too lean. A vacuum hose is not usually the cause of this problem so don't fiddle with the vacuum hose...yet. We need to establish whether the engine is running lean, normal, or rich. The easiest way to tell is to pull a spark plug and examine the electrode. If the engine is lean, the electrode will have a light-brownish color; if normal, the electrode will be black but not sooty; if rich, the elecrode will be black,sooty and most likely wet (excess fuel).

If the plug shows signs of lean burn, you can adjust the a/f screw to increase the amount of fuel. Conversely if the plug shows signs of rich burn, you can adjust the a/f screw to decrease the amount of fuel. Typically, on a stock carb, the a/f screw is at the bottom of the carb and requires a special tool to adjust it.

My recommendation to you is to take your bike to a good indie (independent) bike shop and have them take a look at it. Unless you have been wrenching on bikes for at least 5 years, that is the best course of action. Typically, if you do not know what an a/f screw is, you need to go to a shop.
