Is it the sensor you have tried to clean? I have a blower brush that I take the brush part off and pump air onto the sensor whilst holding the camera lens end down. If that doesn't work then you might have to take it to a camera repair centre for a wet clean.

Canon 17-85 is usm lens very loose focus ring causing lens creep

I also have a 40D with exactly the same lens and fault. Over the course of a few months the lens became "sloppy" so if the lens was pointing towards the ground it began to creep. Towards the end it dropped to its full extent. About 10 days ago it locked up completely and I was unable to zoom at all. Returned to Canon as mine was just in warranty and they have fixed and returned it within 7 days. Very effecient even sending me a text message to say that it had been dispatched. The lens is now just like new and I only hope that this is not an annual trip.
Bottom line; I am an engineer by profession and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. To do these properly you need special tools and jigs to make sure things line up properly. It also needs to be done in a "CLEAN" environment.Do yourself a favour and leave it alone.

Which of the three options of focusing to use on my canon 40d

Okay, since you're photographing subjects that aren't moving very quickly, start with the One-Shot AF. Use Manual AF point selection to choose the focus point yourself. If left to its own, the camera probably will focus on the nearset object.

Canon 40D and 64Gb CF Card

What i find is that the larger the card the slower the write recovery in taking pictures. If you are an action photographer this is a pain as things happen fast . To have the camera take so long to recover from a write leaves you open to losing some excellent shots. So my rule of thumb is use smaller value cards. If you are just a happy shots photographer then this probably doesn't really matter.

Thanks for using Fixya

Image playback

Are you saying that part of the picture displayed on the camera screen flashes black? If so this is normal as far as I have read. It shows there is too much light on that part of that image. You can alter it not to show it flashing.

Digital Camera Purchase

Here is a page that compares the Canon 40D and 50D side by side

Because the 50D is the newer model it is quite a bit more expensive than the 40D. However, the reviews don't find that the quality has improved very much. Unless the 50D has a feature you simply must have, the 40D is going to be a much better value.

Neither has video capabilities. If you want the best video capabilities as well as top-quality still photos, without spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, take a look at the 5D Mark II. This camera has amazing video capabilities for the price (under $3k). Most camera stores have a long waiting list so if you want this model you will have to put your name on a list and wait at least a few weeks before you get your camera.

Try getting a card reader, they are cheap. It sounds like the software is having a problem communicating.

My Canon 40D can't handle bright yellow and reds. It blurs the detail and overly saturates the subject (flower close-ups) - so that the bright red poppy is overly saturated and lacks detail even though...
