IBM Thnink Pad R52 Shuts Down unexpectedly

Hi I have an IBM R52 Think Pad Laptop. It was working fine up to a couple of months ago, when all of a sudden when ever i have to download an update or have any type of activity the computer shuts down. Even simple things like opening outlook to check email will trigger this effect. I have run my virus software (AVG) & no virus shows up on the computer. It happens most when trying to install updates or run virus program.

It might be the battery, try plugging it in while doing that.

Hi

its either a software problem or a hardware problem

normally over heating shuts down older style laptops

try using a lap top cooling pad

Hi, IBM ThinkPad R52 PC (1860-2nu) comes with Infrared and wi-fi however it has no bluetooth. If you want to use bluetooth, you may buy a USB Bluetooth adapter. It can be connected with the laptopvia USB port and works just fine.
Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya! CreativeTECH

IBM Think Pad TDD

reinstall the OS, but first back up you files. you can remove the HDD located at the bottom of the Laptop. buy a cheap 2.5 inch usb to ide/sata enclosure and place your hdd on it. use a PC to transfer your files. then format the HDD. reinstall the HDD to your laptop and install the OS.

I recently replace the fan in my IBM Thinkpad R52. Ever since, when using the power cord it suddenly shuts down after booting for about 10 seconds. But if I use the battery it boots fine.

I would open the case back up to make sure nothing else got moved around when you installed the new fan. If it was close to where power plugs into the laptop, you might have knocked something loose that could be either stopping the fan and causing heat to shut you down, or causing a short when the fan varies its speed.

Shuts down unexpected,

Sounds like an overheating issue, I would suggest using a cooling pad.

325aed8.jpg It's a simple device, you just rest your laptop on it and the fans do the work.

Sometime they overheat when working in a confined space, make sure you have ample room aroung the laptop for ventialtion.

Hope this helps
