Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

New CR2032 battery last about 1 week before the scales say that the battery is dead. Have tried lots of different battery brands and the same happens with all. We only use the scales a couple of times a week and always make sure the scales are off when we have finished using them.

Sounds like the scales have developed a leak across the battery and is draining the power. New scales maybe the best option but before that, have a look to see if there is any spilliage around the pcboard and/or battery terminals.

The control panel of microwave dead. No lights on the panel. There is power to the outlet

If it worked after unplugging and reinserting, it is possible that there is a wiring problem with the plug and wiggling the wires "re-made" a connection. Try plugging in to another outlet to eliminate a dodgy outlet problem.

Blown fuses

Well you certainly have done a lot of work on a microwave that is not worth the effort. When fuses blow and destroy other items ,it is time to junk it and up date. I have found that when something like what happens 9 times out of 10 it will be the magnetron or transformer either of which will be more than 1/2 the cost of a new machine.

We had a bad power surge during a storm last week which fried my Panasonic NN-T990saf. My question is it worth trying to get it repaired or should I just buy a new micro wave?

Although lightning damage is normally fatal to anything with electronics inside, you might remove the back panel and look for fuse holders. If you find one (minimum) or two (likely), replace them (if you have a cheap multimeter you can check for continuity) and see  if it will turn on. You may have to do a little telephone work to locate the high current fuse which is probably 30 amps.
If you live in an area of frequent lightning strikes, investing in a 'whole house' surge arrester makes sense. These are installed in the main breaker box and any brand I've seen comes with a $10-25,000 insurance policy to replace any dead appliances that fail despite the surge protector. They cost $150-250 US plus installation which you can save if you are afraid to DIY.

Replace OTR Microwave

Thanks for responding. It is a EWave KOT-152UW. I think EWave is part of Magic Chef. I think it is the door switch. When I opened the microwave, the circuit breaker tripped. I reset the circuit breaker, and it worked for several days, but the last time, the microwave went dead. The reason I want to use the same bracket is it has through the wall (horizontal) venting to the outside, and I am not keen on trying to cut more holes.

Bought a brand new whirlpool microwave/convection oven 2 months ago. Model GH7208XRS-1. Was using it to reheat food for 2 minutes. Food was not hot enough, so put it in for 1 more minute. When I closed the...

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

If it's still dead, since it's under warranty I would contact Whirlpool customer service for a free fix.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
