I'll tell you what you are the bomb. Oh, by the way Bob's my daddy. I will try all of that and just see what happens. If this is the deal, I will post back on your site if you wish. Thanks so much and hope you have a wonderful year.

No, the thing will not let me do anything. You may have something there with the internals. The green light flashes, screen is lit up but only does the format or turn off thing. Cannot see date and time only format screen, card set up. If you could reach in and fix it I would bring it to you. The batteries are in correct. If you think of anything else please let me know. I do appreciate you. Can the internal memory be fixed?

All new memory cards need to be formatted to the camera they are being used in. Also after you have downloaded pictures from the card to the computer hard drive the card needs to be formatted to clean and make ready for more pictures to be added to the card. Here is a diagram to show you where to go page 25 in your manual

My old card will not format it says, card error. New card says same thing. I can not understand what is wrong with the original card. It starts to format and then says card error.

The "old" card may be corrupt from constantly deleting files and not formatting. Formatting needs to be done on a new card to make it ready for use in the specific camera it's to be used in. With the old card you may be able to bring it back to life if you first format it in the computer then reformat it in the camera.

Hum, a 2GB card might be the problem. Your camera programing called firmware may not be capable of the card memory size. A 2 GB card when your camera was new no offense meant but would have cost three times what the camera was bought for. You might be able to go onto the Olympus site and download the most current update for your camera. Technology in digital anything changes what feels like every day and new models and updated coming every three months. So what we have here is a compounded problem, the original 16mb card has been corrupted most likely from deleting pictures and not formatting and the replacement card being beyond the camera programing capabilities. I don't know if you have the USB cable to connect your camera to the computer, if so then you should be able to use the computer to format the 16mb card, then do a format of the card in the camera. Failing that I'm sure someone at a one hour digital lab can format it for you then reformat it in the camera. The 2GB card might be beyond your camera's capacity BUT, again you might be able to go onto the Olympus site and find updates for your camera that will bring your firmware up to current specifications. Then allow you to format it and Bob's Your Uncle you are good to go with one massive size card for your camera. One sure way to correct the problem would be to buy a 16mb card format it and you are good to go as well. The problem with that will be to find a 16mb XD card as most of the memory today is massive like the 2GB and beyond. I hope I'm helping you here and not confusing the issue

Okay Thanks, Bob's your Daddy and you are good to go for another few years. I just had a brain wave. Does the camera come one and attempt to function will it let you bring up menus? will the screen light up? What I'm thinking is the problem could be completely card unrelated and be the camera internal memory battery has died. In searching for other clues to this mystery I've found that the firmware capacity therefore the memory capacity is from 16mb to 256mb XD the 2GB card as I suspected it light years ahead of this cameras capabilities. If you still have your manual check make sure the batteries are good and in correctly and then check the day date and time function set if they are incorrect. Some of these cameras will not function if the "clock" is out. At least we got the one problem solved with the 2gig card being to big. Sorry I can't reach in there and just fix it.

The camera keeps showing card error and unplug card. also shows format-yes-no. What is this?

Hi, it sounds like the card has an error and will not work properly if you have another card and you put it in and it works ok then that proves the first card had an error If you put the first card in and it asked you to format it what it does is it makes the card ready for use in your camera and if there is anything on the card and it formats it it will erase everything on the card. When installing a new card on a camera it will always want to format the new card and you let the unit format the card. In the end if you put a new card in and go through the format stage and the camera still comes up with error you have a fault with your camera.

Many people are unaware that the newer SDHC format cannot be used with most older cameras. Your camera was manufactured well before the SDHC format came out. I'm sorry, but there's no way that a 4GB SDHC card will work with your camera, it just doesn't understand the new format of the card. The max size card that you can use with your camera is a standard 2GB SD card. More info may be found at this link.

Memory card error?

Hi, Check if other memory card is working on your camera. This is one way of checking if your memory card if still working or there is an issue wither the camera. Formatting Memory card **you should always format a new memory card or one from which you wish to erase all images and other data. ** Please note that formatting a memory card erases all data, including protected images and other file types. 1. (Set up) Menu [Format]
2. Select [OK] and press FUNC SET button.
Low Level format, recommended by cannon
Select the [Low Level Format] when you think that the recording/reading speed of a memory card has dropped. A low level format may require 2 to 3 minutes with some memory cards.

If there are sd card error, you cannot format your sd card. you may get messages like

"No SD memory card inserted" messages appears when using digital cameras,
"A media card hard been inserted that contains errors. Do you wish to repair the Media Card now?"
You can read the files on SD memory card, but you cannot write new files or you cannot edit files on SD memory card,
"Access denied", when SD card is corrupted or broken,

... ...

... ...

you can fix sd memory card errors first and them format you sd card.
