Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a GKS9 furnace. The upstairs furnace will not function properly. I am getting a 3 blink LED signal. I have checked the inlet pipe, the pressure switch, pressure switch hose and wiring. All appear to be in good shape and should be functioning as intended. When the thermostat attempts to fire the system, it seems as though it begins to initialize but all I hear is a small buzzing sound near the blower (like the small electrical buzz of the blower motor) and it never gets past that (ie the fan doesn't turn over and the fire doesn't light). Any ideas?

Also, the blower unit works. When I switch the thermostat from Auto to On, air does circulate.

  • navyco3078 Jan 03, 2011

Yes, yellow (i am assuming power lead) and orange (i am assuming com for the board)

  • navyco3078 Jan 03, 2011

    Same result.

I found a loose wire on the board. Reconnected it. Works fine. Thanks!

    Thanks for your response!!

Remove the 2 wires and hold apart...start furnace....after the
exhaust fan runs, touch and hold the 2 wires together so they make and
    keep metal to metal contact.

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

That changes everything.....the switch is not closing because there
is no air to close it. The exhaust fan must start first...the air from
the fan is what closes the switch.

So now....we need to know if ...

motor has 120v but is stuck.
motor has 120v but is bad
motor does not have 120v because of bad circuit board.

If you have code 3 without action from vent motor is bad circuit board. To verify...

    remove doors
find R and W terminal on circuit board where thermostat wires attach.
connect R to W with a jumper or wire thus connecting them.
tape door safety switch down and turn power on

If circuit board goes to blink code without motor starting up is bad circuit board.

Check all three and let me know,so that we could proceed.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Furnace will not light

Most furnaces can be reset by turning the power off and back on.
The pressure switch senses pressures in the furnace to make sure the exhaust fan or draft inducer is operating properly. if not the furnace shuts down. check the inlet and exhaust terminals outside for obstructions (I.E: leaves, frost or snow) check the drains to make sure they are not clogged . Hope this helps.

I have a Goodman GMP 125-5 furnace. It had a 3 light code i replaced the presure switch now it is giving me a 1 light code please help

A sampling of various failure codes on a furnace:

Read one LED flash that stays on continuously to mean your furnace has no signal coming from the thermostat and will not operate. Turn the power off and check the thermostat for improper settings or connections.

Interpret one LED flash that blinks on and off to mean your furnace has locked out because it could not ignite after three tries, and must be reset. Interrupt power to your furnace for 20 seconds or lower the thermostat so your furnace does not try to heat, then reset the thermostat to the previous setting. After one hour of lockout, your furnace will automatically reset itself and try to operate as usual.

Decipher two LED flashes to mean the draft blower is not working, or your furnace has a short in the pressure switch circuit. Turn off the furnace power and repair a short or replace the pressure switch.

Read three LED flashes to mean your furnace has an open pressure switch circuit or it has an induced draft blower operating. Check the pressure switch hose of your furnace for blocks or an improper connection. Also, look for blockages in the flue, and tighten any loose wiring.

Translate four LED flashes to mean your furnace has a primary limit circuit open, possibly from loose wiring or blocked filters. Check and clean filters, tighten wiring and check the flue for blockages.

Interpret five LED flashes to mean your furnace senses a flame without a call for heat. This could be from a gas valve closing slowly or a burner flame lingering.

Read seven LED flashes as a warning of a low flame sense microamp signal. This could happen with a coated flame sensor or a lazy flame from poor gas pressure. Turn off the power and adjust the gas pressure according to the information on the rating plate.

See eight LED flashes as meaning an igniter circuit problem due to a bad igniter or an igniter connected improperly. Replace the bad igniter or check the ground wiring, making necessary corrections.

Decipher nine LED flashes to mean the high-stage pressure switch circuit will not close during a high-stage-induced draft blower operation. Your furnace may have a pinched or blocked pressure switch hose, a blocked flue or loose wiring.

Read continuous flashing on the LED to mean your furnace has a reversed polarity of 115 volts. Turn off the power and correct the wiring polarity after reviewing the wiring diagram.

If i select source to pc display will become blank and power indicator blinking.

• You can check if the product is working properly using the Self-Diagnosis function.
• If a blank screen is displayed and the Power LED blinks even if the product and the PC are properly connected, perform
the self-diagnosis function according to the procedures below.
1. Turn the product and the PC off.
2. Separate the signal cable from the product .
3. Turn the product on.
4. If the product is working properly, the message appears.
In this case, if a blank screen is displayed again, make sure that there is no problem with the PC and the connection. The
product is working properly.

Is a blank screen displayed and does the power LED blink at
a 1 second interval?

1. This occurs when the power saving function is running.
If you click the mouse or press any key, the screen will be
turned on.
2. This occurs when two monitors are connected,
is and Magictune is running. In this
case, characters on the Magictune OSD may appear
corrupted. To run the Magictune, the must
be set to . Please restart your PC, set the
to and run the Magictune.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

Circulator blower runs continuously. No furnace operation. Integrated control module diagnostic LED is flashing SIX (6) flashes.
6 FLASHES
1 Rollout limit circuit is open.
2 Flame rollout. i? Misaligned burners, blocked
flue and/or air inlet pipe, or failed induced draft blower.
3 Loose or improperly connected wiring.
4 Check burners for proper alignment.
5 Check flue and air inlet piping for blockage, proper length, elbows, and termination. Correct as necessary.
6 Check induced draft blower for proper performance. Replace, if necessary.
7 Tighten or correct wiring connection.

Turn power OFF prior to repair.
i? See i?Vent/Flue Pipei? section for piping details.
i? Ensure the correct pressure switch replacement is used.

THIS IS A GAS PRODUCT, INCORRECT REPAIR CAN CAUSE A EXPLOSION, AND DEATH CAN OCCUR. IF YOU DO HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS SUCH AS MANOMETER AND LEAK DETECTORS, I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT A SERVICE COMPANY

Goodman Furnace GKS9 pressure switch problem

Disconnect the small hose that goes from the pressure switch to the inducer motor housing, at the housing, and stick a paper clip in the tiny hole, and pull it up and down, and twist it. this small hole is probably dirty. good luck.

Bad control board?

This is a good one! I would check for a blocked vent or intake pipe first. Also check to make sure the condensate lines are free of moisture or debris. What is the code for three blinks?

Furnace won't stay running

1
1 FLASH
Furnace fails to operate.
• Integrated control module
diagnostic LED is
flashing ONE (1) flash.
• Furnace lockout due
to an excessive
number of ignition
“retries” (3 total)1.
• Failure to establish flame.
Cause may be no gas to
burners, front cover
pressure switch stuck open,
bad igniter or igniter
alignment, improper orifices,
or coated/oxidized or
improperly connected flame
sensor.
• Loss of flame after establishment.
Cause may be
interrupted gas supply, lazy
burner flames (improper gas
pressure or restriction in flue
and/or combustion air
piping), front cover pressure
switch opening, or improper
induced draft blower
performance.
• Locate and correct gas
interruption.
• Check front cover
pressure switch
operation (hose, wiring,
contact operation).
Correct if necessary.
• Replace or realign
igniter.
• Check flame sense
signal. Sand sensor if
coated and/or oxidized.
• Check flue piping for
blockage, proper
length, elbows, and
termination.
• Verify proper induced
draft blower performance.
