2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 hd. My power steering went out but I still have brakes, what is broke?

Steering and Brakes are totally unrelated.

Steering wheel, steering pump, steering rack, wheels.

Brake pedal, brake servo, brake calipers and discs.

Take it to a garage.

What kind of power steering and brake fluids do I use on a 2006 town and country van?

You can use any fluid marked as power steering fluid. (not transmission fluid) Use dot3 brake fluid in brake systems. Don't use synthetics in brake systems unless system has been completely disassembled and cleaned.
For better service life, remove brake fluid from reservoir with a turkey baster once a year and refill with new fluid (no bleeding required) You can also drain power steering and re-fill every two years by removing return line to pump, allowing it to drain, then re-connecting and re-filling. Nothing lasts forever, but this helps it last a lot longer.

Is there much of a difference between Power Steering Fluid and brake fluid?

If you put brake fluid in the power steering pump, you will
ruin not only the pump but the entire system almost on startup

Brake fluid is NOT a Lubricant,it closer to the coolant family

You will have to romove the fuel injector fuse & power steering
return hose & crank engine & flush out the system with new P/S
fluid

I doubt you can do that

I wouldn't start the motor have it towed to a shop

Power steering leak

Lingo is o.k., but I think you may be confusing power steering with power brakes. Power steering has no master cylinder (brakes do) and no power booster (brakes do). The power steering pump is mounted on the front of engine and run by the fan belt or the serpentine belt. The p/s hoses are 2- a pressure line and a return line, and run from the pump to the steering box or to the rack and pinion steering gear.
It just sounds like you have a brake fluid leak at the master cylinder. If it is, you need a new or rebuilt brake master cylinder.
Good luck. Post back for more.

I have a 2000 oldsmobile intrigue; i went to go get new brake pads and when i got in my car to leave from the shop my wheel was stiff. I told the shop and basically they cleaned out my power steering fluid...

If the power steering was ok before the brake job, I would suspect something went amiss while the mechanics were working on the car. And why, when you returned to the shop, would they clean out your power steering fluid? I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that before. Unless they knew there was something wrong with the power steering fluid. This may sound crazy, but I'm thinking they topped your power steering reservoir off with hydraulic brake fluid when they were working on your brakes. If, in fact, they did put brake fluid in the power steering, changing the fluid would only remove the brake fluid from the reservoir. The rack and pinion assembly would still have the contaminant inside it, which could cause the steering problem you described.

Jeep grand cherokee constant grinding noise, and but in reverse with full right lock it feels like it is grabbing the o/s rear wheel and a heavy deep grind comes from it! thanks in advance

As weird as it may sound, i'd check the power steering fluid. An empty power steering fluid tank will make the power steering grind and make weird noises, and having it at full lock will worsen the noise and have no fluid to build pressure it might starting jumping the steering around a bit. If the power steering is OK then you will need to take the rear drums apart to check for any broken retainer springs preventing the pads from returning into place and it will keep braking and grinding. Could also just be some rust or a broken off metal part in the drum also, but either way you will need to take the drums off and inspect the springs, clips and pads to ensure everything is OK and nothing stays jammed into braking position. Also be sure to verify the rear brake cylinders in the drums, as it may also be them that don't return to the initial position and keep the brakes on.

Engine problem 1997 Chevrolet Silverado C-1500

I have a feeling that when you stopped the first time your engine was already stalled....if your engine was still operating you would have had either brakes, or steering, or both.......

When you said you tried to accelerate, did the truck move at all?, or did the engine race?...what else happened?

In the short description above it sonds like your fuel pump may be on vacation, hence no fuel, hence no power sterring, or power brakes...good news is...no speeding tickets either (just a little humor).

Hopefully this helps you, let me know, and thanks for letting FixYa.com try to guide you.
