The S51 does not charge via the USB. Connecting the camera to a computer merely drains the battery faster, since the camera has to expend power communicating with the computer (even if it's only to say it has nothing to say).

The S51 comes with an MH-62 charger, which plugs into a wall outlet. This allows you to charge one EN-EL8 battery while using another in the camera.

If you need a charger, you can order one from Nikon at
http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikonusa/en_US/pd/productID.213504000
or a third-party one for about half the price at
http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Dolica-Nikon-MH62-Charger/3540124/product.html

The camera should have come with an MH-62 battery charger. Put the battery into the charger and plug the charger into a wall outlet.

If you acquired your camera without a charger, you can order one from Nikon at http://www.nikonmall.com

How do I use my panaramic setting on my Nikon coolpix s51?

It's on page 40 of my S51 manual.

Basically, you select the direction, then take one pic. The camera displays a faint rendition of a portion of that frame so you can line up the next one, and so forth.

Transfer pictures from my Nikon, Coolpix S51

Hi!

Try to plug into a different USB port. If that does not help then go to Control panel->systems-> hardware tab-> device manager->and now try to see if your Camera appears under the options listed (would be under Scanners and Camera, Click on every + sign to see)

Do rate the solution.
Thanks

Nikon Coolpix S51 - unable to install software on Window ME

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive.
