Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Every 12 hours the HP Message Centre on my Mac puts up three messages on the screen <<The printhead has failed and can no longer print. Please refer to printer documentation.>> from my HP Photosmart c309a. The printer is FINE. (The only way I could get the Mac to talk to the printer is to install and use the software which came ON THE MAC; HP's website software did not work...)

    1. The printer software IS EMBEDDED IN THE SNOW LEOPARD O.S.
    2. I have cleaned the print head many times
    3. I am on the third set of cartridges over which this fault has consistently occurred
    4. there is no later driver. The HP driver for this printer running on a Mac is useless; the software packaged with this 4 month old Mac is the latest from Apple/Mac.
    5. I have contacted HP several times - their driver for the MAC simply does not work; I have contacted their helpline - they are pathetic and unhelpful

Reset printer cartridges hp l7580

HP88 CARTRIDGE RECOGNITION FAILURES/CAUSES:

The failure to recognize an ink cartridge(s) could either be a possible Cartridge connectivity, PRINTHEAD* connectivity or an end-of-life PRINTHEAD issue.

We suggest you remove all the ink cartridges and thoroughly clean BOTH PRINTHEADS manually along with cartridge chip contact surfaces (located on bottom-rear side of each ink cartridge). Clean all electrical contacts, including those inside the printer which mate to the PRINTHEADS. Reinstall both PRINTHEADS and cartridges and retest. You may refer to HP's 'manual' cleaning procedures here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=125&prodSeriesId=2511747&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00844045

Ensure an "expired ink cartridge" alert state is not causing the issue, refer to this page on how to check & bypass: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1384

---- If you observe an "Expired xxxx ink cartridge" alert or message, this error may be bypassed by performing the following:
a. Press and HOLD the Power button.
b. Press Resume button 3 times.
c. Release the Power button

If the cartridge was refilled (i.e. at Costco or Fry's Electronics), following HP 88 cartridge chip replacement and complete cartridge/printhead/printer manual electrical contact cleaning, the cartridge alert message(s) continue, then you may have a damaged PRINTHEAD* (there are two printheads inside the printer) which may require re-priming or replacement depending on problem symptoms.

* The HP 88 ink-series printer models have two electronic PRINTHEADS (each of these electronic devices are responsible for pulling ink from the ink cartridges and then firing the ink droplets onto the paper) - both PRINTHEADS will eventually fail depending on printed content, printer duty cycle (i.e. typically rated for ~41, 500 printed pages depending on image content & frequency of printing). The average inkjet printer can typically be refilled with ~15 to 20 complete sets of ink cartridges over the life of the printhead, after which, either the Yellow/Black and/or Cyan/Magenta printhead will need to be replaced due to internal electrical failure (available at HP.com).

Refer to video on how the HP PRINTHEAD functions: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2054
When the PRINTHEAD electronically fails typically the printer will provide an alert message when this happens, but if a printhead has suffered a deprime (i.e. loss of ink/pressure which results in no printing of color), it is possible to recover the system using a 3rd party PRINTHEAD priming tool, such as this one: http://www.inkowl.com/?p=product&product=5035

If your product has a removable printhead and uses 564, 364, 178, 862, or 920 cartridges, you have come to the right troubleshooting document.

Issue
An \'Ink System Failure\' or \'0x... \' error message displays on the printer control panel. The exact text of these error messages varies by printer, but they are usually preceded by the word \'Error .\'

The steps to resolve this issue depend on the error code that displays on the product control panel with the \'Ink System Failure\' message. Look for the section below that addresses your particular issue, and then review the solutions in that section.

Click the plus sign () for more information.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue of \'Ink System Failure\' with an accompanying error code \'0xC19A0003.\'

Solution one: Reset the printer

The error message might disappear after you turn off the printer and then turn it on again. After you make any adjustments to the cartridges or the printhead, reset the printer in order for the error message to clear completely. Follow these steps to reset the printer.

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

  2. With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.

  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.

  • If the error message disappears, the issue is resolved and you do not need to troubleshoot further.

  • If the error message persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Remove, clean, and reinstall the printhead

If the previous solutions did not resolve the problem, the printhead might be installed incorrectly, or there might be ink or debris on the printhead electrical contacts. Follow these steps to check and clean the printhead.

Step one: Remove the printhead

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.

  2. Open the cartridge access door.

  3. To remove each cartridge, press the tab on the front of the cartridge to release it and remove it from the slot.

NOTE: Do not leave the cartridges outside the product longer than 30 minutes. Doing so can result in damage to both the product and the cartridges.

  4. Lift the latch handle on the carriage until it stops.

Figure 2: Lift the latch handle

  5. Lift the printhead straight up to remove it.

    Figure 3: Remove the printhead

Step two: Clean the printhead
There are three areas of the printhead that need to be cleaned: the plastic ramps on both sides of the ink nozzles, the edge between the ink nozzles and the electrical contacts, and the electrical contacts. Follow these steps to clean the printhead.

Figure 4: Three areas to clean

1 - Plastic ramp on the side of the ink nozzles

2 - The edge between the ink nozzles and the electrical contacts

3 - The electrical contacts

CAUTION:Do not touch the ink nozzles. Do not touch the electrical contacts with your finger. Use only cleaning materials to touch the electrical contact areas.
Figure 5: Do not touch the electrical contacts

  1. Gather the following cleaning materials:

    • Several clean, lint-free cloths or papers. Coffee filters and glass-cleaning cloths work well.

  2. Distilled or bottled water. Do not use tap water, because it can contain contaminants that can damage the printhead.

  • Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth.

  • Use the damp cloth to wipe the electrical contacts from the bottom to the top. Do not go past the edge between the electrical contacts and the ink nozzles. Repeat this motion until no ink remains on the electrical contacts.

Figure 6: Clean the electrical contacts

  • Use a fresh, lightly dampened, lint-free cloth to wipe any accumulated ink and debris from the edge between the ink nozzles and the electrical contacts.

Figure 7: Clean the edge between the ink nozzles and the electrical contacts

  • Use a fresh, lightly dampened, lint-free cloth to wipe the plastic ramps on both sides of the ink nozzles. Wipe away from the nozzles only.

    Figure 8: Clean the ramps

  • Dry the previously cleaned areas with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth before proceeding to the next step.

  • Lightly dampen a fresh, clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water.

  • Clean the electrical contacts inside the product by wiping them from top to bottom. Repeat this motion until no ink remains on the electrical contacts.

Figure 9: Clean the electrical contacts inside the product

  • Dry the area with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.

  • Step three: Reinstall the printhead

    1. Raise the latch handle, and then reinsert the printhead.

      Figure 10: Insert the printhead

    2. Carefully lower the latch handle before reinserting the cartridges.

NOTE:Leaving the latch handle raised can result in incorrectly seated cartridges and printing issues. The latch must remain down to install the cartridges correctly.

Figure 11: Lower the latch handle

    3. Using the colored shaped icons for help, slide the cartridges into their appropriate slots until they snap firmly into place in the slot.

Figure 12: Slide the cartridge into the slot

Figure 13: Snap the cartridge into place

  • Close the cartridge access door.

    • If the error message disappears, the issue is resolved and you do not need to troubleshoot further.

    • If the error message persists, continue to the next solution.

    Solution three: Reset the product

    • If the error message disappears, the issue is resolved and you do not need to troubleshoot further.

    • If the error message persists, continue to the next solution.

    Solution four: Replace the printhead

If the previous solutions did not resolve the issue, replace the printhead. Contact HP support to obtain a replacement printhead.

Click Contact HP ( ) on this page for more support options.

If HP replaces your printhead assembly under warranty, you will receive a new printhead assembly, cleaning materials, and a full set of new cartridges.

HP5500 UV...after paper jam I have a replace lt cyan printhead message and recover black printhead.

The Lt Cyan printhead may have been damaged by the paper jam.

I recommend removing all the printheads and power cycling the machine (turn off then back on) Install the printheads and check that each one says OK. Replace any that show recover or bad. (HP will replace free if it is under warranty - return it to the store you purchased it from)

I have three HP L7780 printers that have bad print heads black/yellow. replaced but same problem. ?????

take out printheads. unplugg power cable from back press adn hold down 6 and # buttons on pritner at same time while holding them down plugg it back in. then insert printheads one by one. first insert black/yellow shutt the door adn check for message on pritner screen. if it says printhead missing cyan/megenta it means it detected black/yellow printhead. do same with cyan/megenta adn check for message on screen. if you see no error mesage and both printheads were detected fine let the printheads alligned completely. then if u see same issue it is the pritner whgich need to be replaced.

How do I change the print head on a Xerox 8500?

    Hi there,

    How to remove a printhead
    1. Press the on-line / off-line key on the printer operator panel to set the printer off-line.
    2. Use the upper softkeys to scroll to the 'Replace printhead' card
    3. Press the softkey below the 'Replace printhead' card to enter the wizard.
An introduction screen displays the message 'Use this wizard to replace printheads. A roll is needed for calibration.'
    4. Press the key for 'Next'.
The screen displays the message 'Select roll to use'.
The system does a calibration at the end of the wizard. You can only calibrate on the defined media types. When calibration is not possible with the media available on the printer, the system asks you to load the correct media. When calibration is possible with one of the rolls, the system automatically uses the correct media roll. When calibration is possible with both rolls, use the lower softkeys to select the roll to use.
    5. Press the key for 'Next'.
The screen displays the message 'Carriage moving to centre position...' while the carriage moves to the centre.
The screen displays 'Open top cover.'
    6. Open the top cover. The screen displays the message 'Replace printheads' and the printheads that you must replace. Find the correct printhead number on the printhead carriage.
    7. Press the front of the printhead cover to unlock the cover.
    8. Open the printhead cover.
    9. Pull out the printhead and remove it.
    How to place a printhead
    1. Remove the protective tape from the new printhead.
Do not touch the contact and nozzle areas of the printhead after you remove the protective tape.
    2. Place the new printhead in the printhead holder.
The printhead only fits in one way.
    3. Close the printhead cover.
    4. After you replaced the defective printhead, press the softkey for 'Next'
    5. The screen displays the message 'Make sure that all head covers are properly positioned.'
      Press the key for 'Done'.
The screen displays the message 'Close top cover.'
    6. Close the top cover.
The screen displays the message 'Carriage moving to home position...'
    7. The screen displays 'Calibrating...'.
The calibration process takes several minutes.
You can stop the calibration process at any time. Press the key for 'Cancel' to stop the calibration process.
