SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

There is also a software protection feature on some cameras, but this is used to protect a folder or individual picture from accidental deletion, not the whole memory. You set or release this protection from the camera menus.

If it is not that, then maybe it is having trouble with the size of the memory. Memory cards have grown enormously in capacity in the last couple of years, and even relatively new cameras may not be able to cope with the memory size of the newest cards. Have you tried formatting the card in the camera? This would be one way of making sure that the camera can cope with the card, and it will also erase anything on the card.

SOURCE: how do you unlock card locked on a p1000

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

You can use unlock code to unlock it...Specify current network and country it's locked now and get the unlock code from the site Mobile-unlocker.com/samsung-p1000/rs2wp9/ and unlock it from service provider lock easily. You can follow the free Unlocking instructions below and unlock it step by step...

SAMSUNG P1000 Unlocking instructions:

Method 1:

1 - Switch ON your Samsung P1000 with a NOT ACCEPTED SIM Card.
2 - Samsung P1000 will ask for "Password".
3 - Enter the Unlock Code.

OR (if the Samsung P1000 shows "Insert Correct SIM Card")

Method 2:

1 - Switch ON your Samsung P1000 with a NOT ACCEPTED SIM Card.
2 - Don't bother about what's being displayed on your Samsung P1000.
3 - Compose : #0111*CODE#.

NOT ACCEPTED: We mean, to use a sim card from a network other than the network your Samsung P1000 is locked to.

My samsung camera is frozen. its the SL420. how do i fix it?

Try this simple fix. It worked for the Samsung P1000 Camera; After your camera has stuck/froze with the lens open, remove the memory card only (not battery) and insert it again. Removing the memory card will/should/may cause the camera to turn off complete. Simply turn it back on and see if it works as it should.
Hope you are out there taking great pics again ;)

Uploading from p1000 to an iMac

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.
