Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

My Liftmaster 4410 opens fine but then allows the garage door to drop about 8" seemingly under it's own weight after fully opening. Is there something I can adjust?

Normally there are 2 set screws on the drive unit attached on the ceiling. One for the up parameter and one for the down.It may not be the exact model number as yours, but one thing common among manufacturers is the technology they use stays mainly the same. The same basic model numbers may have minor changes, thus a change in model number. This is to make support and manufacturing easier and also helps keep costs down.It should at least look very similar in operation to your model. You do not have to sign up for anything and there is no junk after.Click download, then enter the 5 digit code and press download again. It will open a menu.If you want to save it permananetly click save.It will most likely save to your documents folder. For 1 time use click run.You may want to save this site for future reference also.It is excellent and has a wide variety of electronics.Adjustment starts on page 24.If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg

They are not light weight but there is no reason if the motor can raise it, then you cannot raise it by hand.

We have a liftmaster pro9000 and the garage door will not open very far. How do I adjust the sensor?

If the sensor sees something under the door, it will stop and blink the lights.

So I think you need to check out the motor, there's dial to increase the lifting strength.

Sounds like it might be a resistance (weight) issue. It's not the temperature since mine opens when my garage temperature is 15-20 degrees (outside temp even lower).

Hi there. I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive

I just had that problem this morning and the cause was that the springs that help hold the weight of the garage door were broken. This caused the garage door opener to raise the garage door a fe inches and then drop again. We called in a professional and $200 later we had new springs and everything works fine now.

Garage door opens 1 foot, then stops.

It sure sounds like you have a broken door spring. While you are at it remove the cover and take a good look at the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. Might be stripped and unable to take the weight of the door.

Check your door springs. One of them is most likely broken and is what caused your drive gear to strip in the beginning.
