I can't offer any help but these seem to be problematic; check this link:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=iPod+nano+refurbished+&category0=

Note that one store is offering 295 of them.

Before buying any piece of electronics any more, I check to see how many 'factory refurbs' are being offered of the model I am considering.
If there seem to be many, I look at other models or manufacturers.

In this case, it looks like the quality worm has finally hit Apple hard.

first open itunes program on your computer then connect your ipod, if it appears in itunes and start charging then your battery is empty leave it until it charges.Else when your ipod appears in itunes, you should get a button "restore ipod" by clicking on it it restores your ipod to its factory condition as if it is the first time you turn on your ipod.

Locked ipod nano

Did you first slide the hold switch to HOLD and then back before holding the menu and center buttons down together? That worked for my iPod nano 4th generation after it "locked up" and became non-responsive.

Off and on

The following text is from:http://ipod.about.com/od/tes1/a/turn_off_nano.htm
Turning off the iPod nano How do I turn off the iPod nano then, you may be asking? You let it, or make it, go to sleep.
The iPod doesn’t really work in terms of on and off. Instead it only deals in awake or asleep.
If you use your iPod for a minute or two and then set it aside, you’ll see its screen start to dim, and then eventually go black altogether. This is the iPod going to sleep. When an iPod is asleep, it uses much less battery power than when the screen is lit up and the music playing. By letting your iPod sleep you conserve your batteries for later.
You can also force it to go to sleep by holding down the play/pause button for a few seconds.
Keeping Your iPod Asleep If you press any button on your nano when it is asleep, the screen will light up quickly and your iPod will be awake and ready to rock.
If you plan not to use your iPod for a while and want to store it, you can make sure that you conserve battery power and keep your iPod from playing a concert to the inside of your backpack by engaging the hold switch.

If your iPod nano won’t turn on or respond
1) Make sure the Hold switch is off.

2) If that doesn’t work, connect iPod nano to your computer’s USB or FireWire port. Your
iPod nano battery might need to be recharged.

3) If that doesn’t work, your iPod nano might need to be reset.

a) Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, and then turn it off again).
b)Press and hold the Center and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

4) If that doesn’t work, you might need to restore iPod nano software.

Mp4 nano 4gb keeps turning off

What I would recommend you to do is fo format your device and then update the firmware on the device..This problem will happen if you have some digital rights management problems on your device...Formatting the device and update the firmware is the only solution to your problem...
