Hp nc8000 laptop. Installing used hard drive. Laptop doesn't recognize hard drive when installingXP Pro with disc. Recognized in bios. With install disc only sees previous opsys partition.

Verify that all previous data, partitions, format version etc.... has been removed. If this is a used hard drive it would be advised to erase and clean the drive before use. This can be done with various disk tools or boot disks and/or various open source software products. This is usually a user preferance when using tools of this type. Once the disk has been cleaned and initialized it should be ready for the Windows installation.
If after cleaned and initialized the disk does not show under windows the it could be no good!!!

Ca i replace the hard drive in a acer aspire one 8'9 with one from a hp mini110? thankyou

Hi

most laptop hard drives are same size 2.5
but the hard drive from the hp may have a different face plate or holder but can easily be removed

also the os system on the hp will not load up and work on the acer
you will have to
either use windows easy transfer to copy your entire hard drive files and save onto spare hard drive
so that when you replace and format different hard drive you can then transfer it back onto new hard drive

or if pre windows 7 os you could use something like norton ghost to copy your existing operating system and files and make a system image and store on spare hard drive then when you replace the hard drive
you boot up with norton ghost and ask it to find the image and restore it to the new drive

Or if your lucky enough to have the operating installation disk or can get your hands on another retail installation disk you can reload a new operating system using the product code which should be on a sticker on the base of your laptop

Hope this was useful to you

I cant open my norton anti virus to type in my product key

How to Activate Norton Antivirus

Step 1:
Uninstall any previous versions of Norton AntiVirus before installing and activating a new version. To do so, click the Windows "Start" button and then "Control Panel."

Step 2:
Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) to open the "Programs" window. Windows Vista users should instead double-click "Programs and Features."

Step 3:
Find the Norton version you have installed in the list of programs and click "Remove/Uninstall" in Windows XP or "Uninstall" in Windows Vista. Click "Restart Windows Now (Recommended)" when the program removal is complete.

Step 4:
Insert the Norton AntiVirus installation CD into the CD-ROM drive, or, if you downloaded the program from the Internet, double-click the installation file. Click "Install Norton AntiVirus" when the installation wizard opens. Click "Install Options" and click "Browse" if you want select a different location than the default for the program.

Step 5:
Click "User License Agreement." Read it and click "Close" when you are done. Click "Agree and install" to begin the installation. When the installation is complete, Norton AntiVirus will launch automatically.

Step 6:
Click "Activate Now" on the bottom-right corner on the Norton AntiVirus program window. Type in the product key and click "Next." The product key is usually on the installation disc packaging. If you purchased and downloaded the program from the Internet, Symantec will send you an email with your product key.

Step 7:
Type in your email address and click "Next." Type your password if you have a Norton account. Complete "Create a Norton Account" if you do not have an account and click "Next."

Step 8:
Review the subscription details and click "Done" to complete the activation.

I've just downloaded Norton on my computer and wish to copy it to my 2 laptops. How is it done?

To correctly answer your question, I need to know the Norton program installed on your computer. Please check if the Norton program is Norton Internet Security, Norton360 or Norton Antivirus on your computer and do the following steps to install on the other computer

If it is Norton Internet Security, click on the link www.norton.com/nis11
If it is Norton Antivirus, click on the link www.norton.com/nav11
If it is Norton 360, click on the link www.norton.com/n360s_5

Double click the downloaded icon after the download has been completed
Follow the simple installation steps to install the latest version of Norton onto your other computer

That's all, friend,

I need to re-install xp but do not have a disk. How can I reformat the hard drive.

Check on the Internet to see if your model of laptop has a built-in restore option (this is usually something like pressing F11 or F10 as the laptop starts up, within the first 5 seconds of turning on).
If it does, try following the user manual for using that restoration procedure. These special re-installations are the modern way of manufacturers not having to supply an actual CD of XP - instead your hard drive just has a secret compressed copy of the whole operating system stored on the hard drive (it's hidden usually, so the owner doesn't accidentally delete it off the drive) :)
If you only wish to install a copy of XP again, you can usually just put the CD in (I know you don't have one, but you would have to buy one), and then during the start of the installation, it may offer an option of what drive to install to, and whether to format that drive before installation.
Note that some versions of XP do not allow that kind of formatting-during-installation option though, it will depend if you have bought the correct kind of disk to do a complete 'clean installation', or an 'upgrade version' only.
Hope that helps.

Reverting a computers OS to a previous version of MS Windows.

xp uses NFTS. The installation disc should give you aprompt for it. I know the world is going 'anti-vista' very quickly but is there a specific reason why you want xp. There seems to be so much hysteria concerning vista. I know some of it is fair but there does seem to be a band wagon going round now.

I am trying to install Norton 360 2.0 and a screen has popped up saying. 'The file 'SymIMV.sys' on Symantec Network Seciruty Intermediate Filter Driver isneeded. Type the path where the file is located,...

if you are installing it from disk check that the disk is free from dirt/dust and scratches this could cause files to be read as corrupt because they cannot be read properly.
