You can go to Dell's site and order one, or you might be able to tell them the box was open at the store and it didn't have one with it, they may send you one at no charge.

Can I purchase restore discs

Please visit the support website of your laptop manufacturer and check if the restore discs can be purchased. Most recent/new models are not shipped with restore discs. The user has to create the restore discs soon after powering up the system for the first time. If this runs into problems. then you may be able to get them discs online at the manufacturer's website or service center.

Power the laptop off. Unplug it. Remove the battery. Turn it over. Open the bottom panels. Look for a small battery. Unplug this battery. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. RE-Assemble everything. Turn it back on - hopefully it has cleared the settings and you will be prompted to enter the BIOS.

All you've got to do is:

1) Insert the new hard drive.
2) Press the F8 key as the laptop boots. This will take you into the BIOS.
3) Locate the disk drive priority setting in the bios.
4) Set Priority 1 to your CD/DVD drive and priority 2 to the 320GB hard drive.
5) Save settings and exit the BIOS. This should reboot your laptop.
6) Insert the Windows XP CD.
7) It should not start the setup as it recognises the CD.
8) I will recommend that you format the drive before you install, go along with the format (make sure it does a full format).
9) After the format it will reboot your system.
10) You will be prompted with a message like "Press any key to boot form CD", DON'T press anything otherwise it will start all over again.
11) Now it should start the install. Follow the on-screen instructions.

When one purchases a new machine, the very first thing that the machine prompts to do is make a rescue disc. If you haven't got one, you will need to either purchase a new OS disc or check you have the licence key on the underside of your notebook and if you have, borrow a system disc to rescue your system.
Hope that helps.

If the system is only a month old, and you have COMPLETE CARE accidental Damage coverage, then call tech support and get it fixed.
If you do not have Accidental Damage coverage, Dell Will most likely charge for the repairs.
If you have damaged the DC power connection on the motherboard, then unless you are well versed in circuit board soldering, you will be replacing a motherboard (About $100 on Ebay)

My dvd disc drive door broke off on my Dell inspiron 1525. Can I just replace this part? Where can I buy a new one?

Yes, you can replace the part. You just need to buy the part from Dell sales and it is easy to install. If you have an accidental warranty you can ask them to replace it under that warranty. If you do not have and your waranty is expired, you need to purchase the part.

I can't tell from your post if this is a new unit or a refurb unit. On the bottom it should say refurbished. If its new you should have received the poster and user guide. Recovery discs you'll need to make from the CPU's instruction. If this is a refurb, you wouldn't get any of this material.
