The "DE" code indicates a door open error. This can be caused by the door not closing all the way (this could be because of bent door/hinges or the door gasket bunching up and not permitting the door to close properly), loose electrical connections at the door switch or powerboard assembly, or the door switch itself is faulty. It can be tested using a multimeter or ohmmeter and checking for continuity. A lack of continuity would mean a bad switch. Also check the door gasket for "bunching" and you can unplug and reseat electrical connections. These are some areas to look at. Be sure to disconnect unit from power before attempting any repair/troubleshooting. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

There sure should be....why, because mine stopped working as well. Found magnet inside machine after getting rid of water on spin cycle (thankfully it still allows the water drain to occur). Put magnet back on and hey presto, all good.....if only I had taped it on as 5-6 washes later and it has fallen off and I can't find it - hopefully a standard magnet will be enough to fix from shops - I am sure LG or proper repair place sells them for a fortune :(

The machine has a small magnet on the front of the lid. There is a sensor (Hall Effect probably) in the electronics block that senses if the magnet is there (lid closed) or not there (lid open). They aren't that well attached and seem to fall off and wind up in the wash, which means they get lost when the washing is being hung out.
The machine will not start without the lid closed you get a dE error code which means the lid is not shut. You can trick it temporarily by putting a small round magnet inside the front housing if you don't have a proper replacement, as the real one needs to be quite strong. Not sure what they cost, my husband just did the 'trick' to our daughters machine, but a small button magnet wasn't strong enough to trip the sensor from the lid position, he had to stick it right next to the sensor.
Shouldn't be that dear, you can buy blocks of very powerful neodymium magnets in varying sizes for under ten dollars.
