How do I get more RAM

You will have to do a little research, but it is worth the effort. You have to go to the dell website and look for your machine type. once you find it, you should be able to find what kind of ram it uses, and how much each stick is, and the max amount you can hold. Then, just order it from the Dell site, or, you can write down the specifications, and search for a cheaper version of ram with the specifications you wrote down. Please note, Ram thats sold by Dell has been tested and approved for use in Dell computers. Copy-cat ram may NOT work, or it may work just fine. If you arent going to save much money by getting the generic ram, then dont get it, and go with the tested good ram.

    Ram upgrading

u can check with Dell...but mind it...there is a limit to up ur RAM....though u may upgrade ur RAM to 7GB ur processor may not be able to handle that much of data that travels thru the RAM....so beyond a limit any extra RAM is of no use....
so check with Dell how much RAM it can hold to the MAX

I want to add more ram. Where do I get it? Dell

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, so don't 'Shoot the Messenger'!

The Dell Dimension 8200 Desktop PC uses RDRAM ram memory.
    VERY expensive stuff!

    Supporting Data:
This is Dell Support, Manuals, and the Dimension 8200 Service Manual,

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim8200/

Scroll down the list to the heading - Specifications, and left-click on it.

Scroll the page down until you come to the heading - Memory
Now look at the first subheading - Architecture
    RDRAM

You have 4 ram memory slots. (memory connectors)

EACH, ram memory slot can support up to a Maximum amount, of 512MB. (512 MegaBytes)

TOTAL Maximum Amount for your computer is 2GB. (Not shouting)

    1024MB = 1GB. (1024 MegaBytes = 1 GigaByte)

The type of Rdram ram memory is PC800, and it is Non-ECC.

(Error Correcting Control, or also stated as Error Correcting Code.
Used mostly for Server computers. Your computer does not use ECC ram memory)

In My Humble Opinion, (And again, don't shoot the messenger), it would be better money spent to buy a decent affordable computer, than it would be to upgrade the ram memory in this computer.

This statement is based upon the fact that the Dell Dimension 8200 ships with 128MB's of ram memory.
(Makes it a pretty slow computer. Rdram or not)

The average cost to install, for example, 1GB of ram memory is OUTLANDISH! (Not shouting)

    Example 1:

    http://www.4allmemory.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.memorySearch&model_id=24927

    Example 2:

    http://www.pcmemorystore.com/Dell-Dimension-8200-ram.htm

For about another $100 you can buy a pretty decent new desktop computer, that will run the one you have in circles.

    Just my thoughts.

New ram memory on dell dimension celeron trying to

You should check with the folks at Dell since whoever wrote their technical manuals for this machine can't do basic math. There are 2 memory slots and each can handle a maximum capacity of 512MB, yet they claim the maximum capacity for the machine is 2GB instead of 1GB. Using 512MB modules would probably work.
