Question about Nikon COOLPIX S8000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Quite regularly when I turn my new Coolpix S8000 on to take photos a message "memory card is write protected" appears on the screen & the camera won't operate. If I turn the camera "On" & "Off" a few times the camera will eventually correct itself. I have tried several new Sandisk sd cards 2, 4 & 8 GB but this doesn't alter the problem. Formatting the cards makes no difference. Can you help? Regards, Bob Algate

On the side of the card you have a little button and it has 2 position : lock and free. if the button is on lock position that may be the problem! so please check it and put the button on free position and try again!

What does it mean "memory card is write protected?"

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

How to upload photos form a nikon coolpix S8000 to my computer ??

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

What does "memory card is

Your memory card is protected from writing, preserving its current contents.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Can't take photos. Screen reads "Memory card is write protected " How do I undo this ?

On your memory card there's a tiny slider button. Slide it along to the other end and see if that helps.

Did the 1st card ever work? (i.e. is the camera new to you). After many uses, the memory cards need to be reformatted (thru your Setup menu). Post the make and model of the cards and we can check to see if they're compatible w/ your camera.
