A common problem is rental videos that have been damaged in the first few feet of the tape by some other vcr's defective drive mechanism that "eats"the tape..What happens is the particles of the damaged tape clog the video heads in your machine, which have gaps in the millionths of an inch.Put a brand new tape in the machine and let it play for a half hour or so and it will usually clear itself. If that does not do it,insert a head clening tape and a couple drops of cleaning fluid and run it through. The newer machines will show a blue screen if there is no video information present. However,if you put it on forward search,it overrides that feature and you will see a snowy picture from a good tape,if one video head is clogged and the other is working. There are 2 video heads on a rotating head.it spins at 1800rpm and that is the whirring sound you hear when play is pressed. If both heads are clogged, you will see a snowy screen and no picture at all.A 4 head machine has 2 heads for slp or 2 hour speed and the other 2 heads are used for lp and slp.A hifi vcr has 2 more heads, which are used for the hifi audio,a total of 6 heads. The stationary playback head has a control signal for tape speed, and regular audio, mono or stereo.

Don't have manuel and don't know how to Set up Hitachi VCR

Such a simple job. First check if the cables are connecred properly
1. Audio OUT from VCR to AUDIO IN of TV.
2. Video OUT from VCR to VIDEO IN of TV

Then switch the TV ON. Select 'Video' on the TV/Video
selection button on the TV's remote control.
Your TV screen will show a display like 'Video' or 'AV'
Play a cassette and you should be able to see the picture...
Happy Viewing.

No instruction manual with item

Hi Ann This is a relatively new product so its not surprising you're struggling to find info online. I'd suggest contacting Hitachi cust services anyway:
http://www.hitachi.com/GlobalSupport/ContactUs?form_type=global_support
Also, go along to Dixons because they do sell this item and just state that you bought one from there but there was no user manual. They can copy one for you there.

VCR shows "PLAY" on machine but doesn't show on TV

Hi,

If even the sound aside from the video is not reproduced on the TV, then your description "connect" indicates that the TV is not set to receive the audio/video signals from the VCR. Initially, pls try:
  • set the TV to Channel 3 (or 4); or
  • set the TV to A/V, Video 1 or Aux 1.
Additionally, you need to confirm how the VCR is hooked to the TV unit, bu a single coaxial cable or 3 cables with RCA connectors (yellow, red & white).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Snowy screen playing dvd's

1.Check audio/video RCA jack cables
2.check S-video(if you use S-video cables)
3.check with another dvd player to get normal picture on your tv system. if picture is normal in this process. then problem with your old dvd player.
4.if same problem occurs in other dvd player. then problem with your television. external audio/video processing circuits
5.if the tv is ok. then the problem with your old Dvd player audio.video converting circuits
6. if can be rectified by authorised service engineers
7.Contact service engineer. as there is no recitification process from user part

Problem with my vcr Hitachi VT-MX 848E(AU) G-code

What speed are you recording at? VCR's with more than 2 heads use different heads at different speeds. Try recording at all speeds and see it that makes a diference on playback.
