If you want the drain to be ducted the measurement is about the size needed for the drain pipe. Normally a duct with an OD- outer diameter -of about 3 inches should be sufficient to plug in the drain hose .
Make sure your drain hose fits into the duct as you can buy one with the drain hose taken out to sample.

What size furnace do I need to replace my old lenex model number g20qq3 4G 125 4

If we're talking physical size, modern units won't be the same, you could essentially look at any manufacturer's dimensions and see what gets closest. For BTU's it's better to base it on the size of your duct system. Generally, or just unprofessionally, lets say 8,000 btu per register. If you have 10 registers in the house, an 80kbtu unit would do nicely. 16 registers - 120kbtu. They max out around 150kbtu. However, I highly recommend you have a professional do it all. If you do something wrong, you could very easily kill yourself or anyone in the house. The risks are huge; installations should be done by licensed contractors under a permit. Plus, contractors should know all of the new energy saving tricks, they could save you tons by changing your system altogether.

Calculation of CFM discharge from an opening of a duct collar

There's a thumb rule in A/C air distribution. At 1 TR load, the air supply is about 400 CFM and the ideal diffuser size is 16" x 16" with an effective flow area of about 70%. Branch duct size for this outlet should be around 12" x 12".

Extraction ducting too long!!

To get the correct dimension, you could make up a template out of thin carboard to do your testing before you cut the metallic duct.

You will need to match the area of square inches of the duct, no matter the shape. If it's round the formula is (pi (3.1416) x radius squared). If it's square or rectangular, it's L x W in inches. Your local home improvement store (if there is one) should stock various adapters and metallic round duct.

Note that since this is being used in a kitchen, the duct should be metal and it should vent to the outside unless it is a recycle hood.

Let us know if that helps...if not we'll try again!

Crossover duct for model C3QA-042U intertherm

The opening for the coil for your coil is 18 1/8" by 18 7/8". The ducting will have to be removed and measured. The strapping you have mentioned is easily replaced and can be bought at Home Depot in the plumbing section where all the duct work is. Your looking for duct ties. They are essentially large zip ties. Don't be scared about cutting it off. You can tape the core back onto the start collar for a temp measure anyway.

Need the cubic inches for the return air duct

For proper minimum opening you need to do duct calculation. This is not a typical math equation for the typical homeowner. And unfortunately alot of contractors do not take the time to calculate this.
If you insist on doing this yourself...... I would recommend the largest opening that a common filter will fit. probably 20" by 25". Going to big on a return air will never hurt. But going to small will.
20" x 25" will work safely 95% of the time. But... If you are running airconditioning that is 5 tons in size, you will need the design a return air system that will feed from BOTH sides of the furnace.

If you are just sizing the trunk line you should use a ductulator to calculate the minimum size. A good rule of thumb would be to size the "return air" trunk 1 - 1 1/2 times the size of the supply trunk line.
