Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)
there is no driver yet for windows 7.but download scan gear and scan gear toolbox from here:http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0000473.asp open properties, compatibility and run it in compatibility mode for xp sp2
Most scanners including all-in-one printers can be shared acrossed a network. Hook up the scanner to one computer. At that computer, go into the control panel and to scanners (XP that would be printers and other hardware and then scanners). Right click on the CanoScan and click sharing. You can assign a name to the device. Go to other networked computer and add the device. You should be given an option to locate device on a network. Install the same driver and software you want to use with scanner.
Note: I'm not a Mac user, I've given instructions based on Windows XP/Vista. But, process should be similar.
Did you restart your computer after you downloaded your drivers and software? Did you select the correct operating system? Make sure the USB cable is plugged into the computer and the scanner...Open the toolbox and click scan or save and check to see if the scanner makes any noise or lights up...If you are using Windows XP then make sure you have downloaded the "TWAIN" driver and the "WIA" driver (two seperate downloads)
It will work fine with Xp but, not Vista. The user can download the appropriate driver update for XP on the Canon website under the support tab on the main website. this printer will work with XP. It will not work with vista.
kind of,if your pc is compatible,i just installed windows 7 x64 and had the same problem, but i installed virtual xp mode and i was able to install the drivers for my 3000f and i can use the scanner againin widows 7 x64.good luck. P>S: windows 7 is free till next year (march) ,not all processors support "xp mode",i was using vista 32 bit before, make sure u update your bios to the latest,i did cause before it wouldn't run
