Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

My Lexmark 4800 series shows the following message when I try to print: Incorrect Port Detected This printer is designed to work with USB cables only. The current software setting is not set to USB Port. I have checked the ports and all are working okay. My printer was working when I first bought it but now has this problem.

    Hi there,

I am not really up to speed so can you please explain point 1.

Where do I find a printer queue? I am not on a network or anything, just desktop.

    Regards

Thank you I have tried your recommendations but unfortunately nothing seems to work!!
Do you have any other suggestions, apart from buying a new printer? :)

  • otas23 Jan 03, 2011

The printer is only about 2 years old. I haven't tried another cable, but I will and see if that is the problem. My computer is now giving me a message that there is a usb attached that it doesn't recognise or appears to be damaged.
Will let you know outcome, thank you.

You may want to reset your printer system by:

1. Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane.
2. Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu.
3. Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet.

Let us know if this helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

I see. If you are not in a network ,there are two ways to do this:

    Via the printer software:

    1. Click Start - Settings- Printers or Printers and Faxes.
    2. Right-click the Lexmark 4800 Series icon.
    3. Click Printer Preferences.
    4. Click SAVE SETTINGS menu.
    5. From the Restore Section, select Factory Settings. (defaults)

Or Via the printer itself :

1 Press ? repeatedly to choose Maintenance.
    2 Press check.
3 Press ? repeatedly to choose Reset Defaults.
    4 Press check.
5 Select Yes to reset all menu defaults.
6 Select Yes to reset all network settings.

Thank you for letting me know. Since the computer is now recognizing the printer, uninstall and reinstall the printer driver and see what happens.

I am getting an error message saying Incorrect port detected. The printer is designed to work with USB cables only. The current software setting is not set to USB port. In my printer properties dialog

Do you hear the connect/disconnect sounds when you plug the USB cable into your computer? If you do not, then the system is not recognizing the printer USB port.

Here is what I would do:
1. In the Devices and Printers section of the control panel, right-click on the printer icon, and select printer properties, then select the Ports Tab. Delete any ports connections for the printer. There could be several for the same printer.
2. Uninstall all Lexmark drivers.
3. Make sure that the printer does not show up in the Devices and printers under control panel. If the printer still shows up, remove the device by right-clicking on the icon, and select Remove device.
4. Reboot the computer.
5. Re-install the printer software. The software should detect the printer on the USB port.

Good luck.

This printer and this software (on your laptop) want to hold hands directly ... not through a proxy. You have solved your own issue ... plug the Lex into the new computer.

My lexmark 4300 series says incorrect port detected

Hello!

Yes the problem is with your printer port setting, to view or to correct the printer port setting,
- go to CONTROL PANEL
- click or open Printer or Faxes
- right click your Lexmark printer and click properties
- a menu will appear, choose or click PORT tab
- at the Port tab listing, choose USB port and click ok after choosing the right port.

then you should be able to print properly after the right configuration.

Hope I was able to help.

Lexmark X 4550 scans ok but when i try to print, "incorrect port detected" comes up as a fault, i have it all connected ok and in a usb port. can anyone help please.

look under control panel ,printers and faxs, right mouse click on your printer displayed in the list , then from the list, select properties . Next from the tabs on top , select ports, from the ports list select the usb connection on the list or if wireless you should have a lexmark connection port showing as well. Its just you havent got the correct port selected.Dave

Incorrect Port Detected

According to Features and Specs on Lexmarks website, this is a All in One? i.e Fax, Printer, Scan & Copy? also it's a Network type?

If so have you chosen the correct settings via the Printers Dispay and Control Panel? ...... I assume you have and everythinh in Device manager looks good, i.e no Yellow and or Red Icons over anything listed there, especially USB....correct?

If your Vista is the 32 Bit then the driver file should be: cjb5000enOSS.exe (87.7MB)
If Windows Vista x63 then it will be: cjq5000enOSS.exe (132.76MB)

Hope the above helped,

cheers,

Bastian

Hi. I have previously downloaded the driver for the Lexmark X75 printer, but when I try to print -I get the following error message: "Incorrect Port Detected. The current print job has been...

I'm assuming you're using Windows XP. If not, these directions may differ a little.

  1. Click Start > Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click on Lexmark X75, and then click on Properties.
  3. Click on the Ports tab.
  4. Find Lexmark X75 under the Printers column (or look for which item under the Port column is checked).
  5. Chances are it somehow got changed to COM or LPT. Find any available USB port and check it. Click Apply.
  6. Try to print. If it doesn't work now, you'll probably get a different error, something like "Cannot Communicate". If that happens, go back to theProperties window and try checking any other USB ports you see there. If there aren't any more to try, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to get it working.
Good luck!
