I installed Windows 8 recently and had the same problem. Solved it by installing the sound drivers from the official Toshiba website:

Hi Kathy,

Go to the control panel, then sound. I don't have a vista machine in front of me right now, but there should be a tab for recording. Make sure it tis set to the microphone and not another device. Let me know if this works. If not, I can help further once I look at a vista machine.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Joe

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Hi, My laptop is: TOSHIBA SATELLITE A205-S5851 When using the Skype, I can hear perfectly but no one can hear me, I am not using an external microphone, can someone help?

This model Toshiba does not have a built-in microphone.
For people to hear you, you need a mocrophone.
You need to attach an external microphone to the Toshiba and configure Skype to use the external microphone.

If you had the same problem with an external mouse and cleaning the screen doesn't help, I suggest you may need to download some newer drivers from Toshiba.com or have a virus.
Run a good anti virus programme, like Norton to clear it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite U505 pc laptop that was working earlier today. I was in the middle of showing a video to a friend when it just shut down. I turned it on again and the Toshiba screen showed up...

If that was a video over the internet you may have downloaded a smart virus. ( ie/ tricks the computer in thinking it is safe ). Shut the computer down and restart it in safe mode. F8 or F11 while it is booting up, ( I could never remember! ). Close all residual tabs/web locations and all other programs. Go to the START icon and restart in normal mode. Me thinks that should do it for you.

How do i connect my Toshiba Satellite U505-S2950 to my hd tv ? I have an HDMI cable but my lap top has no port for it.

Your laptop has a vga port, use an vga male to HDMI female adapter to connect the two with an HDMI cable. There are adapters available at a company called "Cables to Go" below is their web site.
