Question about Bose Companion 3 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

No Sound At all from the Speakers. I have plugged and replugged in the connections. I am getting power but absolutely nothing out of the speakers. Some minor static if I wiggle the power cord, but even that is sparse. Its a Companion 5 multi-media system ordered with a desktop Mac bought about 4 years ago

How to Resolve No Sound on Windows Computer?

Ensure that you aren't muted. The Windows Sound icon is small, and it can be tough to see if you are muted or not. Click the Sound icon in the System Tray and then click the Speaker button in the pop-up that appears to toggle the mute
  • If you don't have a sound icon, then your sound drivers are likely not installed correctly.

Inspect the speaker or headphone connection to the computer. A bad connection is one of the most common causes of no sound, and is also one of the easiest to fix. Make sure that your speakers or headphones are plugged in completely, and that the cables and connectors aren't damaged.

Ensure that your speakers are connected to the right port. Make sure that your speakers are plugged into the correct port on the back of your computer. The green port is most commonly used for external speakers, while the orange and black ports are used for surround sound systems and subwoofers. The pink port is for microphones.

Make sure your speakers are powered and turned on. Many speakers require a power connection, and may need to be turned on in order to work. Check the volume controls on the speakers as well to make sure that they're turned up enough to hear.

Reconnect your HDMI cable. A common problem for HDMI users is that no sound comes out of the speakers that the HDMI cable is connected to. A simple fix for this is to unplug and then replug the HDMI cable, which should switch the default playback device to the HDMI device.

No sound from built in speakers.

The bleep cold be just a bleep device separate from the speakers. It looks like a round piece of aluminum with a large dot of white solid past on it with a wire attached.
1st. make sure the volume is up all the way.
Then try using a headphone just to make sure the sound card is working.
If the headphones work then it should be a setting somewhere.
Sometime the switch that turns off the speakers when headphones are plugged in gets stuck, try plunging them in and unplugging them out while music is playing.
If they don't work the sound card may be blown but it is still possible it is not.
Also, try Keyboard shortcuts for mute and UN-mute.
Try going to control panel and bring up the sound app and try different options in there for mono and or what ever it has, you may find the answer there.
If the headphones work but nothing else works you can always plug external speakers in the headphone plug.

Should the power supply be hot to the touch

your psu should not be getting to hot to touch try blowing it out using a fine air blower from an air compressor making absolutely sure there is no moisture in the airlines you will need to open up your computer blowing dust from the inside out

or you might remove it to blow air through it
take a note of where the wires connect if you decide to remove it

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to reinstall drivers

click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(appropriate speakers) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there

click start control panel sounds and audio devices select advanced there might be a tick in the mute box untick it
hope this helps

I get a low hum from my speakers. How can I get rid of this?

Boston Acoustics Media Theater HUM. The problem may be the power source. Find another DC power source for the 12 volt. All I had was a 14.5 volt 4.5 amps source Model PS6 power source which fit the plugin socket. Absolutely no hum now and still great sound. However, I would recommend a DC 12 volt source with at least 3 amps output.

No sound coming out of speakers when turned on

If you get absolutely no sound, not even a pop when changing the standby switch, this probably means the rectifier OR the switch has failed. The red light just means power is getting to the power transformer... probably fuse is OK.

My computer speakers just went silent in the middle of a song

Do the speakers have power? Check the fuse.

Where are you plugging your headphones?
Where are the speakers connected? Is it the same jack as the headphones?

Have you tried plugging the speakers into the headphone jack vs the soundcard?

I HAVE NO SOUND ON MY GATEWAY GT5660E. i HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING

Do you have the speakers plugged into the correct plugs in the sound card? Make sure speakers are not plugged into the mike jack. Do you hear any static as you remove and replug the jacks? Do the speakers have a power light?

Open Control Panel ->Sounds and click on Sounds tab. Do any sounds play? Click on the Audio tab and make sure Default device is your sound card. Click on Volume tab and then Advanced. Make sure nothing is muted.

Assuming you have Windows, check the sound card in Control Panel->System, Hardware, Device Manager. Check for correct drivers. If necessary, uninstall sound card and let Windows detect it again and install drivers.

Make sure you plug into the GREEN speaker port on the PC.If using a digital connection, try going back to analog. The difference is almost non-existent,and much less hassle.
