My flash broke

I don't think the flash is working inside the camera. But something is severe damaged. It could be the camera is leaking light to the sensor, but also inside circuits can be damaged. It would be to expansive to repair the camera, because the parts would be more expansive than the whole camera, let alone the fee you have to pay for the technician.

Test button- fire, but when attached to hot-shoe (camera or trigger) doesn't fire. Why?

Check the hot shoe contacts and make sure they're clean. If that doesn't help, place the flash on your camera, turn both on and reset the camera to factory default through the menu settings. Also make sure the hot shoe on the flash and the camera isn't damaged. Have you tried the flash on another camera?

580 ex repair

If resetting the camera to factory default settings WHILE the flash is mounted on the hot shoe and turned on doesn't help, you may have physical damage/failure with the flash and it will need to go in for repair. This sounds likely if you've had an ongoing problem since you got the flash.

You could also try checking the ETTL sensor to make sure it's not damaged or blocked by lint, check the flash on another camera to see if the problem persists, and check the hot shot mount on the camera and the flash to make sure they're not damaged and solid.

Camera wont flash

Need to open and check the flash ciruit, possible that since this was wet the inverter circuit was damaged. Use a iron to solder if there is dry marks on components. Check power to the flash board when triggered, if not the control board is faulty.
If power is present without any flash then you will need to confirm the driver working or else it is damaged.

Have new Nikon D700. Have Mets flash gun. Have

Even older flash units from the same manufacturer can damage newer digital cameras. It's a matter of the trigger voltage. Older flashes can put a lot more juice through a digital camera than the camera can handle.

Since you neglected to specify the model of your Metz flash unit, I can only suggest you look it up here.

Nikon d40 fully damaged?

My standard response: Contact Nikon USA (if you're in the US) and ship them the camera and lens. This will cost, which they will estimate up-front, but it is the absolutely best solution to the problem. Anything else is a hack job!

Wet Canon Camera

You have eather a damaged bulb or flash circuit. The flash circuit can be replaced easier than tring to solider on another bulb those thinks can sometimes be a pain. The flash circuit is normally held in by two screws after the case is removed and is connected by a ribbon cable. WATCH out for the compasitor that thing can shock the stuffing out of you lol take it from someone who knows lol. anyhow once that is replace the flash should work if it does not then you mainboard is damaged and that will have to be replaced.

Flash Will Not Operate

Flash doesn't operate from various reasons. Try to reset your camera if you find in the instructions manual a procedure like that. If it doesn't work here are some possible reasons. The flash works because a power inverter will charge a capacitor at about 350 volts. These are required to make a small lightning inside the flash tube. If the capacitor is damaged it will not charge, and the flash woun't work. If the invertor is damaged, it woun't charge the capacitor, and without those 350 volts the lightning inside the flash tube woun't go on. If the components that links the the camera's internal processor to the inverter circuitry doesn't work because of some failure to those components, again the inverter woun't work. Any shortcircuit or open circuit or imperfect contact can result in this. Even if the camera's firmware was corrupted in some way it could fail to instruct the camera to charge the flash circuitry. As you can see there are many reasons for that but only a service center can make the correct diagnostic. It isn't adviceable to dissasemble de camera yourself and tamper with the invertor circuitry as you are exposing yourself to those 350V. You may get some nasty electric shocks or damage other components. Therefore, I think the best aproach to this problem is to have it diagnosticated and fixed by a specialised service facility.
