Question about Fisher and Paykel 23 in. DD-603SS Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Just moved in to a new house and it has a dishwasher model DD603SS. Didn't clean the dishes properly and I noticed some dirty water in the drain filter. Checked the manual and cleaned the filter, spray arm and filter plate and also checked the drain hoses. Put a couple of dishes in - not too dirty and carefully stacked and after 2 minutes it starts beeping. The error code is not in the manual - but is a tap with a cross through it. Checked the water supply and drain hoses again and it continues to do this. Checked the bottom drawer and same error code comes on. Spoke to customer care and they suggested a service call. Trying to avoid spending money on a dishwasher I have used only once since moving in. Can anyone help? Thank you!

I must be a moron because I didn't understand your advice.

Do you have diagrams that point out what you are suggesting?

I checked the manual and discovered that my error code is actually "U1" even though it doesn't actually say "U1" - just the tap with the line through it.

I cleaned the drain filter, the blade and then cleaned out the water that was sitting in the drain filter. I then checked the drain hoses and they looked fine.

I spoke with the Fisher and Paykel technical service line and they asked whether i had stacked the plates properly - I double checked and did!

they asked whether any of the items had excessive food on them - they didn't

they asked whether I was using proper dishwashing detergent and rinse aid - I did

and then they asked if the propeller blade was rotating freely - it was.

My question now is whether the blade is supposed to be loose or is it meant to click back on?

I have checked and double checked and it just sits there loosely. I can't seem to get it to click - but it does rotate freely.

The dishwasher is only a few years old and I have only used it once since moving in. I can't accept that I already have to make expensive service calls and / or replace parts because they are faulty!

Would very much appreciate plain English assistance because I am not technically minded whatsoever!

    Thank you

Hi.

Check wiring harnesses inside the tub. Normally dishwashers have a pressure sensor to detect water. This F&P is a compact model, and the sensor may be integrated with pump. check wiring harnesses near to the drain hose. Check that all connections are in place. If there is no problem near to the drain hose, then the inlet valve may be faulty. The inlet valve is tested reading Ohms with a multimeter. If the valve has infinite impedance (circuit open), then it must be replaced.

Here diagram and parts.

    In plain English:

The arms are supposed to move freely if you spin them. No clicking.

The problem you have is poor inlet, that means : not enough water getting inside the appliance.

    This can be caused by:

Not enough water from supply hose.
    Clogged or kinked supply hose.
The water valve (inlet valve) is malfunctioning.
A part located inside the water that detects water level is malfunctioning.

The problem will result in poor cleaning and in the error message with a tap being displayed.

Dishwasher not cleaning dishes

DISHWASHER NOT CLEANING WELL??
Here are 5 common reasons why not.
Here are Improper Water Temperature
I can tell you from personal experience that water temperature has a direct impact on how well your family's dishwasher operates. If the water entering your dishwasher is not hot enough, your dishes are likely to come out coated with grease and dish detergent residue. As such, you will want to make sure that the temperature of the water inside your dishwasher is somewhere between the range of 120 degrees Fahrenheit and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If it's not it could be a faulty heating element.
Dirty Pump
Based on my experience, a dirty dishwasher pump will also cause your dishwasher to produce less than stellar results. Therefore, you may want to consider cleaning your dishwasher's pump every six months. In many instances, it is an easy task to complete. In order to clean your dishwasher's pump, you'll most likely have to remove the dishwasher's spray arms. Once the spray arms are removed, you'll want to clean and inspect the pump's impellers, blades and pump guard. I should also mention that there are appliance companies that sell dishwasher pump repair kits should you notice that a part needs to be replaced. A basic dishwasher pump repair kit will tend to cost you $20 to $60 depending on your dishwasher's unique needs.
Dirty Spray Arm
Dirty spray arms may also be to blame. After all, if the spray arms' holes are clogged, the hot water won't be able to reach the dishes properly. A dishwasher's spray arms are very simple to clean. In order to clean them, you will need an old toothbrush and a bread twist tie that has been stripped of its paper. Use the toothbrush's bristles and the wire from the bread twist tie to unclog all the holes.
Broken Dish Detergent Dispenser
A broken dish detergent dispenser is another likely culprit when it comes to dish cleanliness problems. Sometimes the dish detergent dispenser's door will not open or shut properly, which prevents the dishes from getting nice and soapy. The good news is that most dish detergent dispenser problems may be solved relatively inexpensively. The cost of a replacement dish detergent dispenser will vary based on the make and model of your dishwasher. There are also instructional videos online that will help you with the installation of your dishwasher's new detergent dispenser.
Dirty Filter
A filter has an impact on a dishwasher's effectiveness as well. Hence, you will want to inspect your dishwasher's filter for obstructions. The location and type of filter will vary based on your dishwasher's make and model. I would recommend that you check out your dishwasher's operator's manual. It should contain instructions on how to clean your particular unit's filter as well as where you can order a replacement part if need be.

My Frigidaire dishwasher has dirty water.standing in bottom. Dishes are not clean

Two things to consider....clean water or dirty water?

Clean water usually indicates the fill valve is not shutting off all the way and the fill valve is "weeping" water in all the time = new fill valve time!!

Dirty water usually is not a dishwasher problem but more of a plumbing issue. Often the sink drain that carries the sinks water outside is not fast enough and some of this sink water is backing up into the drain hose and filling up the dishwasher through the drain hose. The drain from the sink to outside needs attention as this type of a problem indicates a slow house drain for that sink.

The dishwasher drain line should be clamped to the top underneath part of the counter before entering the sink drain plumbing, this may help the water from coming back inside the dishwasher.

Dishes come out dirty like trap needs tobe cleaned kenmore 565

Hi

If you are noticing that the dishes are not clean, then there are a few things to check for. Check the soap powder if it's kept in a dry environment. Also try replacing the powder with something like a gel or liquid. Next thing to check for is the water pressure and fill valve. Check if the water is filling in and the spray arms are throwing the water with enough pressure. Try and listen to the sound if you hear a proper spraying action sound.

If it seems as a low water pressure then check the fill valve. Now, check if dishwasher is draining the water or not. While the dishwasher is working check whether the dishwasher is draining and there is not much left out water after the cycle is complete. Try cleaning the spray arm with a soft brush. The water temperature plays a major role in cleaning of dishes. The temp should be between 125 and 150 F for dishwasher to clean the dishes.

Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Dishes are still dirty. I have used every kind of dishwasher aide, half loaded it and dishes are still dirty, I let the water run until very hot before starting the washer. The washer says you don't have...

Suggest the problem may be a plumbing issue - likely substantially blocked drain system, so the dirty wash water cannot properly pump out but rather remains in the dishwasher.

Suggest getting a plumber in to "snake" out your kitchen drain system. You will probably notice your sink drains will suddenly work much better too...

Dirty dishes

You need to take the spray arm off of the bottom and get down to the filter: there's probably food trapped in the filter somewhere, not able to drain out and it keeps recycling onto the dishes at each cycle. Good luck!
