Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

A couple weeks ago, after plugging my HP laptop back in after using it, I noticed that my battery did not start charging immediately. Since then, the power level in the battery has slowly been dropping from 7% to 3%, even though it has been plugged in the whole time. Other than the battery, my computer is fine. Could it be I just need to get a new battery? My laptop is almost three years old now.

Hi. Yes definitely you need a new battery. Also try this drain the battery completely an charge it for 24 hrs. Check it if there is a change.

Yes, you have come up with the right answer.

Most laptop batteries do well to last 1 year before they wear out. You have done very well to stretch out 3 years on this battery. Good work!

If you want some help finding a replacement battery, please reply with the full model number of the laptop and I'll track one down for you.

Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year!

You might check your device manager to see if there are any clues there before trying a new battery. Also, check your Power Options settings and see if there is a conflict.

Issues with Laptop Battery not charging

You may have a bad battery but, my best guess is the motherboard and it is not cheap.

Battery icon showing 0% available (plugged in, charging). I did not use laptop for roughly 3-4 weeks. I also did not notice any quick battery loss prior to this when not plugged in.

Hi

I would be tempted to leave laptop switched off and turn power plug on to charge up the battery before i use it for a couple of hrs at least and hopefully this will put some charge into the battery

they say that if you continously use the laptop with the power cord plugged in then you could
remove the battery completly to extend the battery life and just use the cord

that way the battery will last many years longer

Battery won't charge

If the battery is not charging, then the charging circuit of the motherboard is bad.

Page 3-22 lists the spare part number for the motherboard. (4 versions depending on options)

Evo N610c Laptop - auto shutdown?

If you had the adapter checked out, then it has to be the power input to the motherboard (where you plug the adapter in). I have one of these laptop's as well, but my problem is that the battery is completely drained and won't change. Never the less, you might be able to find a replacement motherboard from ebay for fairly cheap.
